Not that desperate, weve had problems with telewest which prompted us to look elsewhere and we called them up last night looking to upgrade to tv drive and the movies and sport so looked into sky and found we could get the lot tv movies and sports, sky+ and broadband also taking into account bt line rental for around £68 a month against telewest who wanted £97 a month but brought it down to £92 and that was the retentions people. Ok we need to take the hit with going back to bt £125 to get reconnected and the £89 to sky but i looked into the 3 year picture and the saving going to sky is worth the swap over. The more i save the more i can spend:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:0 -
OMG!! i recieved my NTL bill this am and it was a shock.. £90 all together. used a few mobile numbers i knew about those but i was paying nearly £60 for a fone tv and internet service alone the tv being the very lowest basic package.
Anyway i rang ntl as some of the numbers didnt add up, wasnt satisfied and asked to get rid of the tv package £11.50 for lowest pack, not great value.
As a money saver i thought i could do better! go to sky and get thier tv plus free internet. told ntl this and the cs lady said...." if i can do some jigging of figures around would you stay?" i thought well ill lket her jig and then say no!
She did her jigging and said ill do all 3 plus give you ALL the channels bar sport and movies for £25 altogether!!! me very happy... but not when ive been paying £60 for a worse service!! should have complained sooner!
So all you NTL customers ring and say your moving and watch them drop the price!!

A BT reconnection may be free of charge if there's little or no 'engineering' work to be done.

Were looking at worse case scenario, the house did have bt 10 years ago but we had a loose cable come from somewhere and it was banging the windows so hubby cut it off so we thing as the t.w phone and power stayed on the likely hood was it was the bt cable he cut
but i guess an engineer would have to come out first to determine.

I obviously didn't call the right department at NTL as I had a very long conversation to get ant form of discount off NTL despite being with them 8 years never having a discount before and in 2000 having a expensive 2nd phone line and paying over £150 a month in call costs as it was for business! I eventually got a discount of £8 a month for 4 months!
I also asked about the new limited channels free ntl tv box (like freeview) which was advertised to me as being free as a long standing customer as long as I was a phone and broadband customer. The bloke in customer services seemed confused and stated I needed to be a TV customer already and if I then called up they would down grade my tv from a package to free! This confused me!0 -

im also fed up with telewest high prices
i have been a loyal custm er for over 6 years for the internet and on and off for the phone and tv
i presently was paying about £70 a month for 4 mb broadband, supreme tv and talk 400
i phoned today to say i couldnt afford the high prices any more and i wanted to downgrade, the bloke was quite happy about it, asked what i wanted to downgrade to etc, i told him i wanted the talk weekends, 2 mb broadband and essential tv
i was quite dismayed to be charged £17.99 for the broadband and told him it was too dear and its much cheaper else where, he said this is the price, nothing i can do about it.
i finished the phone call, but now im quite wound up, im still paying £42.24 for my services.
i know perhaps if i went to cancel i could get a deal out of them but i was scared they would cancel and id be stuck !!!
i have e-mailed them though saying i expected my broadband to be £14.99 and how expensive they are
but, i am on the lookout now for a different company, telewest will not look after its existing customers0 -

Did you speak to retentions? If not then do it again and threaten to cancel. You will get nowhere talking to CS Im afraid. The cant cancel it until you confirm it several times on the phone anyway....
They become Virgin Media in Feb and I think they want to keep the customers away from SKY... I get 4meg BB, Phone and family pack for 32.99 per month.
DO NOT ASK TO DOWNGRADE - ASK TO CANCEL!Being bored is so boring Im bored of it... :rotfl:0 -
Yeh is funny how they offered to reduce my price once I mentoned moving the whole lot to Sky0

Sorry to hijack the thread.
I live in a mid-terrace town house and currently have an NTL phone line.
If I was to get BT installed, would I need a full install and therefore have to pay £100+
Or would there be another option? Can't find much information on the BT website.
Thanks0
