Seems like this is a thread full of success stories, which I can add to as my previous unlimited dial-up for £12.49/mnth plus line rental at £10/mnth got merged into a £17.99/mnth 1mb broadband (free installation) and no line rental for a year.
Only thing is, they're still charging me £12.49/mnth. Are they completely disorganised or what???? Not that I'm complaining for the time being!

many thanks all... i now get the £20.49 deal as well... ie 1 MB b/b and unlimited eves' & w/end calls. They were so apologetic on the phone! BE CAREFUL though, i think with the phone deal you do have to ring off and re dial after 59 minutes to keep it free. But you do not pay the 5p connection charge. validation period My b/b is for a year, phone for 6 monthsnever put off buying a bargain today,it may be gone tomorrow0

My friend has phone (3-2-1 tariff), 1mb broadband (£17.99/month) and basic digital TV package (£21.50/month). As the phone line rental is free, his monthly spend was £39.49/month + calls.
I got him to call the NTL disconnections (customer retention) on 0800 052 0243.
No sooner had he mentioned "freeview box" as an alternative to their package and indicated that he would have to go to BT for an alternative broadband supplier, they offered to put him straight onto the 3 for £30 package. Allegedly only available to new customers. Saving him £9.49/month.
He'll be using the free local calls at weekends that comes with the phone but 1899 for anything else.
Make the call people...
They are the worst company I have ever had to deal with, any one heard the prhase NTHell. I have managed after about 4 months of threats(from them to me), to get rid of theire Family pack TV, and personally will not be taking up any further packages with them. I must admit to using their 1 mb broadband. I just wouldnt trust them anymore. Teir customer services are............ not abble to print the words I would like too0 -
mechy,
you are spot on in your assessment of NTL customer services- they are dire.
Luckily, I haven't had to use them greatly. Their customer retentions department are better. The deals that they are doing are also competitive so it's a case of "You pays your money (as little as possible) and takes your (as much as you can get away with) choice."...and then the window licker said to me...0 -

I am with ntl and i was paying £17.99 for 1Mb broad band and £9.99 line rental. i called them yesterday and told them if they dont give me the present deal which they give to new customers i will leave...
Now I am paying only £20.49 per month for 1Mb broad band and Line rental + the fact that they gave me free unlimited calls for evening and weekends!!!!
Call 0800 052 0243 and ask them for cheaper monthly payment. I think i am using the same service as you but paying about £10 less than you.
Good luck with the call.
I have got the same package as you but route my calls thru 1899 & 18866, am gonna go for broke & try to squeeze some cheaper line rental from them.
you dont wheel & deal, you dont get.0 -
I have just made the call to NTL to cancel my digital TV package with a view to buying a freeview box with a hard drive (to record TV programmes) and they have renegotiated my package. I currently pay £17.99 for my broadband (300) which has been upgraded to 1MB for the same price, they are giving me the digital TV for free (currently paying £19 per month) and I keep my Talk 24 for £25.00 per month and it's for 12 months from today - I'm chuffed to bits (as long as they are true to their word) - saving £22 per month and the price of a freeview box. Thanks for the advice to everyone0

According to the NTL website, that's £9.50/month line rental (fair value) and £15.50 extra for unlimited calls to UK 01/02 numbers.
Do you really make more than 500 calls each month, every month? I ask that because, for £15.50, you could make 516 calls for 3p each via call1899.co.uk on your NTL line.Their - possessive pronoun (owned by them e.g. "They locked their car").
They're - colloquial/abbreviated version of 'They are'
There - noun (location other than here e.g. "You can buy groceries there") OR adverb (in or at that place e.g. "They have lived there for years") OR adverb (to or towards that place e.g. "Go there at noon") OR adverb (in that matter e.g. " I agree with you there").0 -
Good point but we use it for a business line in our home office and I make a lot of calls, and the business pays for it and we send faxes from it too, it is pretty easy to make 10 calls a day when I work in the office, plus I use my separate BT line for incoming calls only (se we can distinguish between business and personal calls) and we make all business and personal calls ia the NTL line. We need to have 2 separate lines as my husband also makes a lot of business calls. Thanks for the tip though.0
