But surely like any other provider, you could transfer the call to retentions! It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0

Hit the nail on the head bex dont they pay NTL staff to think. Somthing like "Im really sorry but you have not come through to the right department I will transfer you through now or the number you need is ???? / this department may be able to help you".
Simple as that.
You probably saw the persons attitude and then decided to be obstructive.0 -
to be fair samtheman does say he/she offered the caller the number for Retentions.0

Also the advice given on MSE is to ask for retentions or dial retentions as they are the people empowered to make an offer.
Hopefully given that the retentions number is an 0800 number and the customer services number is 0845 people will dial the correct number0 -
Just thought i'd post that having called NTL and telling them i was planning to move to sky (which i said were offering free sky sports for 6 months) here is what they offered:
10mb BB (which i was already on) for £17.50
Free Talk 24 for 3 months (told them not to bother as i didn't trust them)
Family Pack discount of £9.50 a month
Quite happy with that but will review it in a month depending on whether they actually apply the discount or not!!0 -
Haven't posted for ages and ages, but thanks to this thread originally, I managed to get free line rental for a year and my 2mb broadband down to £15.50/month. That was last year though. I have been using 1899 for calls.
NOW: I have been paying my line-rental again for about 3 months and my BB is still £15.50/month (though its now 4mb without me doing anything).
Just rang the new (to me) retentions number of 0800 052 9403 and mentioned CPW's Talk Talk packages.
I was offered Talk Unlimited 24 for six months free, only paying the line rental. My BB deal is still very good, so I have not quibbled about that at all.
SO:
Talk Unlimited 24 FREE for six months
Line Rental £11
4MB BB £15.50
Not bad for one phone call. I was told to ring again in six months for more discounts, so I will :j
cheers.Debt-free as of 01.10.08. I will never have a CC again and I'm "in the black" :beer:0 -
Just got a deal after calling retentions:
4Mb BB
Talk 24 unlimited
Line rental
£18.49!0 -

As Sky have just released there Broadband package i have just managed to bleed them dry
. Earlier this month i moved my TV service to sky which i think helped. I was on the 1 meg at 17.99 a month. I phoned to say as im now a sky Digital customer i could get free broadband up to 5meg (not true) could only get 3 at a push on this BT line. So ntl first offerd me my 1mb for 9.99 a motnh :rotfl:. I then got through to retentions and was offerd 10 meg for £8.99 a month for 12 months. Which of course i snapped up straight away. As i dont have a landline telephone i would have had to pay BT 11.99 for my line rental to get the "free" broadband. Plus when NTL do finally have a line for me they are going to give me 12 months free line rental. RESULT.

Hi
I am currently paying (per month):
Basic TV Package: £3.50
Telephone: £10.50
Internet (1mb): £17.99
TOTAL: £31.99
Have been with them for ages and after reading this thread I am determined to get a better deal.
What bargaining tools can I use? At the minute I know of these 3. But I am unsure of what they actually offer and how much they cost.
1. Sky offers
2. freeview box
3. Talk Talk offers
Ideally I would like the internet speed increased and maybe a better telephone call package.
What should I push for?0
