I have one question. Recently I tried to downgrade my NTL package to broadband only as I am well over the minimum 12 month term. They said they could put me on a "broadband only" package, but he did mention because it was a package change I would be subject to a new 12 month contract.
So, although you may be getting a great deal from NTL aren't you locking yourself in with NTL for another 12 months by doing this?0 -
thanx martin I got my ntl package reduced by £2.50 per month and my free calls upgraded from local to national.....plus saved a few quid on the free phone 0800....whilst waiting ,,zzz, as it changes to 0845 from monday.handy tip you can contact them on the internet now,,so I let them know what I thought about 0845 charges FROM A PHONE COMPANY!,and they replied in a couple of days..though the reply was a bit propaganda..it was FREE.0

Response from NTL to a threat to cancel and go BT/Pipex. I forced them to put the offer in writing as I had heard that they offer you a nice deal after 3 months the prices go up. I got mine fixed for 12 months.
They said I was a valued customer so when I asked why didn't you phone me with this deal, no answer. Anyone know an email via which I can complain to??
Thank you for your mail.
The price will be fixed for 12 months. We wont commit this price for ever as you will probably find all prices will be dropping before that period.
You would continue to have two separate bills, your broadband bill would be £12.50 and you telephone bill would be £10.50, plus any calls not included in the call plan.
As far as the broadband speed increasing, the 2mb service will raise to 4mb on the 1st June automatically.
Any more questions please get back to me0 -
Not been as lucky as the rest of you in getting reductions and/or special offers so, finally after yet another crap phone call with CS and the disconnections bods, the red mist desecended and I have cancelled my d.d (joys of internet banking), emailed a snotty letter (made me feel better) and rung BT who were falling over themselves to sign me up....needless to say I shall very quickly migrate to the best/cheapest provider.
In a nutshell, I had 2MB bb for £24.99, telephone base pack for £21.50, family digital tv for £8.50 and sky sports for £15.50 making a grand total of £70.49 before adding in the cost of any calls. The wifes sister only has a mobile and, god knows what they talk about every day, this was taking the bill to roughly £110 every month!!!
The account was in my wifes name; we have tried since June last year to have it transferred into my name as I pay all the bills (hmmm...wife doing very well here!) but despite countless phone calls and letters CS never managed to do it.
So basically they told me they won't deal with me as I am not the account holder but they won't do the necessary to put the account in my name...though they're still happy to take over a £100 a month from my dd.
Not any more!!!
At the moment I am considering going for the carphone warehouse deal and maybe trying Sky...?
Better luck to you all!!!:beer:0 -
I am desperate to reduce costs. I am with NTL for phone, broadband and TV. We pay
£24.99 - 2mb Broadband
£52.50 - Family Sports & Movies TV package
a whopping £80 plus minimal phone calls, but free line rental
Talk Talk sounds great but it would mean reverting to a BT line (we have a TW (Telewest?) white box, not BT so guess we'd have to pay installation. Presumably BT also don't take kindly to people reverting to them only to move straight to Talk Talk.
Also NTL TV would not look very competitive on its own as Sky have the brilliant sounding Sky + box, but it would mean installation and dish on the roof. Does anyone know if NTL will ever come up with a similar box?
Maybe this means that we're better to stay with NTL but what is the best rentention deal we could hope to ask for?0 -
Thanks so much for this advice. I phoned NTL, waited 20 mins, got cut off etc. heard their message about their "new 0845 number", phoned back and quoted customers getting free broadband. They denied this was possible but after quoting our long service contract with them for £24.99 broadband and £52.50 they eventually gave us £10 off the TV and half price broadband £12.49 - total monthly discount £22.49, fantastic. This has been applied for 6 months when they will review it when changes (presumably more competitive prices come in). £270 annual saving for 30 minutes of my time, excellent!0

Strange situation here... I was about to move from my house so i called to cancel, they tried to offer me some discounts but i didnt really want them. Now, my plans have changed, i will be staying at the same house and i need the broadband over the summer! I have a 2mbit (soon to be 4mbit) broadband and im paying for it £24.99 which i think it is too much as bulldog is offering 16mbit for £30 (including line rental). My broadband is due to cancel in 3 weeks time, what can i do to save some money as i really want to stay with them!
Maybe i should call and say "hello my plans have changed and i will be staying at my home and i would like to keep the broadband but bulldog is offering 16mbit for £30 including line rental", or something else? Do i have any chance? Thank you !0 -
Hi Nrg
I think you should try as there's nothing to lose... I found they tried to deal with me on the main number (general Customer Services I guess) but when I said I wasn't happy with the offer of £8.50 they suggested I speak to the Retentions Dept to see if they would give a better offer - which they did, £24.99 off. You could just say that Bulldog has a better deal but it would be more convenient to stay with NTL but will have to move if they can't come up with a similar deal as they are no longer competitive. If they refuse you can still say "you want to think about it and will phone back". Good luck.0 -
So, i made that call ! They offered me 2mbit @ £14.99 and 10mbit @ £24.99  I mentioned the bulldog's offer £30 16mbit broadband + landline rental included, and said that i will think about it and i will call back. Do you think i can go further? I am mainly interested in 2mbit but if i could get the 10mbit for £14.99 that would be fine :j0

Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0
