After yesterdays success at reducing my NTL bill by £40- £50, I had a call this evening from disconnections to survey why all their customers were leaving. I was honest told him my husband has just been made redundanct, I did an audit of what we have been watching, about 9 channels only and decided to get a Freeview box for a one off payment. He tried to tell me my telephone deal was only for 3 months.... 12 months I replied on all three lines... ah yes he said... then he said you have been a fantastic and loyal customer... and he would like to offer me the basic package which gives me the 9 channels we watch at £5.50 a month for 12 months. So my £65-£75 bill is now down to £26 a month. A very satisfied customer and a grateful user of your site. Thank you all very much... next move - endowments and who knows what next.

Yes (although not fully merged yet).

They've just bought Virgin Mobile too and will then re-brand under the Virgin brand name in an attempt to get away from their NT-Hell and Teleworst nicknames.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Spoke to NTL a month ago to say that I was thinking of leaving and what could they do, they offered me 12 mths free phone line rental and 2mb bb for £20. However got my bill and it was much higher.

Just spoke to them and got told that I was bein charged £10.50 for line rental - argued that they had said differently, put through to customer relations, told that I had free line rental for 6mths and customer services were wrong and to call them tomorrow as their systems down. So retentions can look at my account but 5 minutes later services can't??

I just want my bill rectified!

Update - They didn't implement the changes! Just spent half an hour on phone to CS - they offered £8 discount. I wasn't happy with this, so asked to speak to a manager. I was told that he wouldn't put me through as he believed he had solved my isssue (yeah right!). Asked to be put through to disconnections - spoke to a lovely chap! Straight away he upgraded me from 1mb BB to 2mb BB and made it free for 6 months. Lovely! I now only pay £21.50 for TV, Telephone and 2mb Broadband. Fantastic! :j

I have called NTL and threathened to leave for talk talk. I am on 3 for 30 package, telly, phone, 1 Mbit Unlimited, + family pack. For 6 month they will give the family pack for half price, and they bumbed up my broadband to 2 Mbit unlimited. So will see after 6 months how talk-talk broadband will be still swamped, and then switch or get a better deal from NTL...

  • I have just spoken to NTL. Besides the fact that they are changing to 0845 (my call was 30 minutes) I have managed to get them to reduce their charges.

    I was paying

    £10.50 line rental
    £6.50 Talk Unlimited
    £17.99 1mb braodband.

The said that they would do the braodband at £9.99 and I said that htis was not enough.

Finally they have reduced this entire package to £20.50 interesting what one call can do.

THIS IS ONLY FOR A YEAR thougj.

I have 1MB BB/Phone line(no package) and Family pack for £30.99 (1MB BB £9.99 for 1 yr, Family pack 1/2 price for six months, ends next month). Not wishing to be greedy, but is this still a good price or are there better deals to be had?

    Many thanks
