powie69 wrote:I have had an interesting day. First of all my hair was a dark brown colour (my natural colour is light brown / blonde). I was attempting to go mid blonde, by putting a pre lightener on my head first. 3 attempts later and my hair has ended up looking like my mum's dog (tan and blonde) My mum has been trying to rectify it for me, but no joy so far. Will resume torture in the morning.
Other than that I've had three trips to Morrisons complete with red baseball cap (which my dad said made me look like a McDonalds employee!) to try and find suitable instruments of torture for my head. To top it all I have also been told I have a passing resemblence to that girl off Gimme Gimme! Never mind, there is always OH offer of a number 2 all over (Sinead O'Connor look out)
Oh god - how awful!! That happened to me once, im naturally a dark blonde colour, and once dyed my hair 'proper' blonde, which turned out orange, stuck another brown on top, which turned out post box red (I kid you not) and then managed to get a plain brown with no red in it, and got a kind of orangey brown. I did cry.
About 3 months ago, I dyed my hair blonde (you would think id have learned to avoid box colours really) and it ended up a funny grey blue shade, and the colour on the box is pretty much identical to my usual dyed shade of a lighter blonde, even though id avoided peroxide based colours. I couldnt leave the house for days - I looked blue rinseish - and then decided to just go to a hairdressers to get it sorted. And now I will never browse boots home dye section again. Its quite ironic that when I do a home dye on a friend for instance, who needs assistance, it always turns out really great.
I hope your colouring goes much better than mine has ever done!!

Yesterday was mainly an Admin day - I'm sure my shredder is almost burnt out after I put it through it's pacesBut I did put down some carpet in the Utility Room - off cuts that I'd stored in the loft from 2yrs ago. Ok, it's not wall to wall, but it does the job LOL.
DS (11yo) made pizza for supper yesterday, dough made in bread machine, and it was really yummy! His face was a picture of pride when he brought it to the table - d9yo made the coleslaw and also the jelly for dessert - so all in all, they are really beginning to build up their culinary expertiseLOL
My soap is almost dried out enough to cut into small blocks and the tags are all made
Today I'm baking - it's cooler and I will enjoy it LOL - then relaxing!!!!! All the laundry is up to date and I refuse to *clean* as such on a Sunday
Wishing you all a good day!!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Morning Queenie!
I made your soaps last night!! They do look great, I made them a kind of egg shape in a greasproof papered old fairy cake baking tray - and they do look good!
I had an admin morning yesterday, and then went into town, posted all random bits back, and then went shopping. Last night I also made home made pasta, and my boyf actually ate it, saying it was lovely, and for the last 18 months he has been saying that he hates pasta. Not any more! Im feeling quite pleased, I can now make another meal thats cheap and easy, and he wont moan when I give it to him!
Ive been thinking more about keeping chickens, last night I realised that If I grew tomatoes, chilies, peppers, garlic and basil, had free 'home made' () eggs, then to make a pasta meal I would only have to buy flour and olive oil. Im going to go to the garden centre today and have a look around for some seeds for next year, I have noticed the sales have started so Im going to see if they have any offers on!
Aside from that, the house needs a good clean again, and I could do with going breifly to the supermarket to pick up a few bits, but apart from that, I think ill read the saturday times I didnt get round to reading yesterday, or maybe the second hand book I picked up from the market for 75p, or maybe make a loaf of bread....
Have a good day everyone!

Jo - you actually inspire *me* with you enthusiasm - keep up the great work.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

You inspire me too Queenie!
Ive realised this morning that my enthusiasm comes from my paternal grandma, who passed away when I was 10, and I have fond memories of all the things she used to do, home made apple pies, home grown vegetables, quilting, knitting etc. I never had the chance to learn from her as we lived about 200 miles away for a lot of my childhood. Ive been told on hundreds of occassions that I am just like her, and I always loved being at her home, helping out in the garden and stuff!
Aside from that, I also think that it is a reaction against the typical values and activities of my contemporaries, which I feel have little meaning in the grand scheme of things, and have found that I have been much happier being at home doing all the things that generations before me always did. I mean, look at the state of the country today - kids see sewing machines in museums, they dont know what a real vegetable looks like, food comes in plastic, and clothes are bought from shops so everyone looks the same. Who wants that kind of life!! How boring!!
Long Live O/S - and all you excellent people teaching me the skills my gran never had the chance to do.

Yesterday OH gave me £100 cash for housestuff (flooring, paint, etc) so we went shopping. After going into Carpet Right (priced some flooring and even found carpet at £1.99 a square meter which might do for the bedrooms/stairs), ELC (DD bought a bottle of bubbles for £1 and was made up when she got to give them to the cashier and then pay and got the bag and receipt herself - she actually said No to buying anything else
), HMV (OH bought 2 DVDs in the sale with the start of his money), WHSmith (couldn't find anything I wanted even in all the books which is all I usually buy ), Argos (couldn't justify buying a breadmaker or slow cooker as I can manage as it is with the oven where I can do 4 loaves at the same time and a pan on the hob on its lowest setting so saved LOADS of money there) then we went into B&Q where I didn't spend anything either (was looking a thick piece of doweling to make 2 hanging rails in the bedrooms alcove but it was £12.98  so decided I could do it with two brush handles instead :T) I did call in at the Chandlers on the way home and bought 6 litres of white emulsion (£8.99), 2 brush handles (69p each), a new scrubbing brush head (£1.99 but cheaper than other shops around here), a new washing line (99p for 15m one) and a new wash basket as the cheap mesh collapsible ones aren't strong enough. I bought a really bright and colourful weaved one for £9.99, expensive IMO BUT I saw the same one in a magazine a few weeks back for £30 because it had a "label"
Went to Nans and had chocolate cake  then came home and got take-away from the chippy as a big treat. I did get some portions of Sweet & Sour sauce, BBQ sauce and curry all of which taste much better than packet/jar versions. They're in the fridge at the minute but will be going into the freezer today. Since I'm the only one who like Sweet & Sour and Curry I will be having a few treats of rice and sauce for dinner I think
As for today I want to go and get some flooring for the kitchen and get it laid as I'm sick of concrete flooring! I can't mop it so if coffee gets spilt I have trouble getting it up. OH doesn't want to go out so I might end up walking yet. Other than that I don't have any real plans except laundry again :wall:Creeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!0 -
Hi all.
The moussaka was brilliant, thanks. Used the Saint Delia recipe (omitted the parsley cos 1. we didn't have any and 2. we don't like it) I've never used nutmeg in a cheese sauce before - yummy!
I also went and priced up curtains for my bedroom. I have 3 windows, 2 are very large, so got it priced for being made. Well over £600! I asked how much material and she said 33 metres. Hmmm, I said, I'm thinking about making them myself. She did some totting on her calculator and said - 'you'll need 24 1/2 metres then' It turns out that this particular shop quote on using the largest pattern match and seeing as my material has only a 2 inch drop, thats a lot of material paid for that I don't get!! This is something I'd not thought about before, so any of you OSers out there who can't/don't want to make your own curtains, make sure you ask. Mum's next door neighbour sells curtains and material so I'm off to see her in the week - I'm sure I can get them for much less via her, and she only charges by the pattern drop amount.
Other than that, I've been and recycled a large piece of kitchen worktop from my dad - he had it in his shed and I want a piece for my garage, so that's saved me a few bobThis afternoon it's the school fair so we're walking down after I've had lunch. (Means I can partake of a small shandy at the beer tent they have
)
Then I'm doing a rhubarb and strawberry crumble for tea. May make one for next door seeing as their boys love it so much. Pork chops, spuds and salad for main course I think.
OK, Mr TM is stomping about saying' I thought you'd come in to make lunch' so better put suitable wifey/cooks hat on. Have a nice day, especially if you've lots of sun, as we have.

Thanks Queenie, hope you have a lovely day.
Yesterday went well, I got all the stuff I needed for the house for less than £150 including a gigantic rug for the living room (to cover the rather grotty carpet) for £29. Everything is starting to look so good it's a shame we're moving!
Today I'm concentrating on the mountain of washing that has built up since we started decorating, I can't show someone the airing cupboard and have a huge pile of dirty washing falling out can I?
Dreading tomorrow as we have the funeral of a good friend to attend, it's going to be a huge affair in the cathedral and dh is playing a solo piece on the cornet, he hasn't touched that instrument in 2 years so he'll be practicing hard for the rest of the afternoon.Organised people are just too lazy to look for things
F U Fund currently at £2500 -
having a nice day after birthday day
been to local horticultural college shop for some plants so will be out in garden later
had a lovely bouquet from hubby last night so just shared out the flowers between 3 vases, they didn't have cut flower food with them so what can I put in vases to make them last longer?
