Our application seems to have stalled so I'm having to phone around to keep things moving.
    • 7th Sep - Application submitted directly through Nationwide using one of their advisors
    • 8th Sep - The online portal updates stating all documents received and accepted
    • 8th Sep - I get a call from Countrywide surveyors to arrange my buildings survey
Then absolutely nothing from Nationwide to date. About a week later I start to wonder what's happening, so make some enquiries.
    • 16th Sep - Vendor's estate agent confirms valuation booked for 23rd Sep
    • 21st Sep - Surveyor's portal confirms outsourced buildings survey booked
    • 28th Sep - I contact Nationwide asking what the delay is and am told they are waiting on the valuation
    • 30th Sep - Vendor's estate agent confirms both surveys have been carried out on their booked days
    • 30th Sep - I contact Countrywide asking where the valuation has gone and they say they won't supply it until the buildings survey report has completed, which will take another week or so(!) They suggest Nationwide send a Post Valuation Query (PVQ) to Countrywide to request the valuation now.
    • 30th Sep - I ask Nationwide to request a PVQ and am awaiting their response.
Throughout this, I have yet to receive any automated communications from Nationwide regarding the valuation. I would not have known it had even taken place had I not done some digging around. Makes me think a link has broken in the communications between Nationwide and the Countrywide surveyors, which is frustrating when that adds weeks of delay to the process.

Hey ho, all part of the fun of house buying I suppose  :D
Pretty frustrated with Nationwide and Countrywide surveyors. Having not heard anything further I escalated my request for Nationwide to request a PVQ and now got a response from our mortgage advisor to say she has raised this with the relevant department. This was on Monday 4th.

Thursday 7th comes and I still haven't heard anything so I call Countrywide again. They state that the Valuation is completed and closed and that they have sent everything they need to. Back on the phone to Nationwide (a 25 minute wait on hold) and I am now told that the application has not been updated since the 8th September, and that as far as they are concerned, no valuations has even been booked. This is why no searches have taken place yet; they have done nothing for the last month.

It seems the valuation department is now aware of this and is perusing it, but they are still bound by their slow SLA's, and no amount of requesting ours is dealt with as a matter of urgency seemed to yield any change. It's okay that mistakes happen but it's how you deal with them that's telling and both Countrywide and Nationwide don't seem to care that their process has broken down somehow. Think I need to find the email address of someone a little more important at Nationwide and let them know what's going on; that might get thing moving.
Disappointing update. After three weeks of trying to get Countrywide surveyors to return the valuation to Nationwide, they have...and it's a ZERO valuation.

I have yet to get written notification from Nationwide, but over the phone, they say the report mentions damp, subsidence, and woodworm. The holy trinity.

Thing is, I got the full structural report back a few days earlier and it confirmed that there were no damp readings in the house, with the exception of the unheated single-skinned porch (quelle surprise that would be damp), there are no cracks more than 2mm and no signs of subsidence, and whilst there are signs of woodworm in the beams, it is historic and no longer a problem (the house is 150 years old).

Anyone have any experience of this sort of situation? I have submitted the full structural report to Nationwide, but of course they will take 5 working days to even look, so now I wait, but know a builder in the area so may ask him for recommendations for people who can, at short notice, verify these things are alright such that Nationwide will be satisfied.

Suddenly feels like I won't be in before Christmas...
    Final update from me.

    • ~25th Aug - Contact Nationwide requesting appointment with mortgage advisor

    • 30th Sep - I ask Nationwide to request a PVQ and am awaiting their response.
    • 22nd Oct - Valuation report finally received with a Zero valuation, requesting Structural Survey and Timber and Damp report
    • 9th Nov - Both surveys completed, reports received (house not rotting or falling down, as per our building survey), and sent on to Nationwide
    • 10th Nov - Nationwide reject reports as the name on one one the reports has my fiancee's to-be married surname, rather than her maiden name (you couldn't make it up!)
    • 10th Nov  - Name amended on report and resubmitted to Nationwide.
Now by this point, I have lost all confidence in Nationwide being able to do anything other than procrastinate, and have contacted my old broker to look at the market.
    • 11th Nov - Application for mortgage submitted to another lender
    • 11th Nov - Valuation accepted
    • 12th Nov - Payslips uploaded and reviewed
    • 12th Nov - Offer visible to broker
    • 16th Nov - Offer appear through the letterbox
So all's well that ends well, though we will now have to pay an early redemption charge, annoyingly. I have cancelled the Nationwide application, but would be interested to know how long it would have eventually taken them to make a decision either way. Currently looking at 50 working days since application (and more since first booking an appointment) for Nationwide vs about 28 hours for the new lender from application to offer. Needless to say, I shall be making a complaint to Nationwide and trying, though likely with little luck, to recoup the ERC on the existing mortgage.

I’m dreading this happening to ours. Do you mind me asking what lender you went with? I need a really quick offer.
  • Hey all!

Thought I would jump on this thread for abit of advice.

We have put our application in with nationwide on Thursday 28th October. Received a text on Monday 3rd November saying the valuation has been booked for 18th November. Which seems really far away to me.

We are buying a new build and have a deadline of 8th December to exchange contracts but I am really worried that our mortgage won’t be accepted by then.

Does anyone one know if they will do the underwriting before the valuation?
Hey, you had any updates? I put my application in on the 3rd and have my valuation tomorrow too, and supposed to be completing on the 10th as well. Hope you’ve had some good news!
  • Joining this post since we're now underway after some major stumbling blocks. We own a house with small remaining mortgage, contacted our current lender (Principality) in September to see if it was possible for us to look at buying a new home prior to selling our current home. They checked all our finances and said yes, at 90% ltv. Since we had over 10% deposit and spare for higher rate land transaction tax with a decent buffer we started our search.

09/11/21 Viewed house and made offer (£11k over asking)
    11/11/21 offer accepted
    12/11/21 DIP from Principality approved
13/11/21 At application Principality admit they made massive error, can't offer us 90% ltv mortgage, only 75%!!!
13/11/21 Hire mortgage broker to find us better offer
15/11/21 DIP from Nationwide at 85% ltv, there goes that spare £11k in case of downvaluation 😒
    16/11/31 Application filed with Nationwide

Now we wait and pray we don't get a downvaluation! We never would have done things this way if Principality had advised us correctly in the first place we planned all our finances so carefully and only offered above asking as we had the buffer spare to cover it. So stressed, sorting this has been a nightmare so far!

    Hi everyone,

I’ve just seen that Nationwide have reduced their interest rates since our offer was issued - does anyone know if it’s possible to ask for the new lower rate please? And if so, how laborious ( or tense!) the process is?

I asked my mortgage broker to change the rate. It took just under a couple of weeks to go through the queue to be processed again and it reoffered on the new rate.

Finally have an offer  :D so i thought I would share my timeline:

    22/10 - DIP
28/10 - Full application submitted through broker.
    01/11 - valuation booked
    18/11- valuation carried out
18/11 - valuation received and mortgage offer text straight after.

Really pleased with it overall. The hardest part was the wait for the valuation - It felt like a lifetime!

I had a 5 year old default too and it was much more straight forward than i ever expected. We are FTB buying a newbuild with 85% LTV.

Good luck to everyone still waiting for your offer
  • We had a valuation on Wednesday but haven't yet heard anything.  I assume the timescale to hearing can depend on valuation being submitted and then being seen by underwriter?

    Ah that’s amazing! Congratulations!!

My valuation was carried out yesterday too, spoke to my mortgage broker today after she spoke to NW and she said that they’re just waiting for the valuation to be approved but I’ve passed everything else, so fingers crossed they review the valuation soon!

Hi everyone, we've recently applied for a Nationwide mortgage. Looking at their own timescale page, they say the average time from application to offer is 12 working days at the moment but we've missed that by a little bit now.

We applied through a broker on 2nd Nov.
Got a text from Nationwide to say they'd received the application on 3rd Nov.
Another text on 11th Nov to say they'd booked valuation for 15th Nov.
Alerted to a hard credit search on the 13th Nov.

We've not heard anything since and I know it's not been that long but we've not had great experiences with mortgage applications and the nerves are starting to creep back again.

How long are people finding Nationwide to be taking lately and I'm always impressed that some people go elsewhere and get an offer within hours. How come everyone can't do that?

    13 actual days for me.

I wouldn't worry because they have done the hard checks and I'm sure if there was an issue you will have been notified by now.

Look forward to your offer on Monday or Tuesday.
