Logged into my BG account and it asked for another reading which I gave then an amount flashed up which it invited me to pay (then it was gone in a flash)
(I haven't set up a DD yet) but there was no proper bill, breakdown or indication how they arrived at that figure . No bills or statements in the account yet.

Just to wrap up the topic, my other property now shows Zero Fixed October 2022 as the tariff with a supply start date of 10 December. The first property was a bit of pain but I guess once I had the tariff applied & backdated for one, pushing the line that the tariff was unavailable and switching to it would be impossible would somewhat lack credibility.1

So I've found out my energy supply has been switched from Neon Reef to British Gas.
Was on this tariff:
OceanUnit Charge 13.44357p/kWhStanding Charge 12.684p/Day
Been switched to:
Variable
Unit Charge 20.773p per kWh
Standing Charge 23.307p per day
That's a HUGE increase, is there anything I can do about this?
On a side note - I don't appear to have had a final bill either.
Thanks.0 -

This is what domestic energy costs these days.Edit to add: and it could be going up another 50-60% at the start of April.N. Hampshire, he/him. elucidate said:I cancelled my DD when NR went bust. This was shortly after a payment on 12 Nov.
I then signed up to an expensive BG tariff prior to SoLR appointment in the hopes of getting onto Zero Fixed.
I received no welcome email and thus didn't set up an account at the outset.
BG were then appointed SoLR and I dutifully "reset" my password, with the usual "Something went wrong" message appearing on login.
Then received a letter saying I'll be switched onto tariff I signed up for, and go on supply on 7th.
Got cold feet and utilised cooling off process so that I get put onto the Welcome tariff. Since then, when I log in, it just says "switch cancelled".
Even when they emailed me to give my meter reading, I had to do so via the section of the site where you submit a reading without logging in.
So I seem to be stuck in some kind of purgatory.
Update on my situation. Received an email on the 29th Dec titled "a warm welcome" and urging me to open an account. The one I had already opened still said "Switch cancelled" so I thought using a fresh email address will solve the problem.ivanleo said:Just to wrap up the topic, my other property now shows Zero Fixed October 2022 as the tariff with a supply start date of 10 December. Fresh email address worked and it turns out they ended up NOT cancelling my switch to HomeEnergy Secure Jan 2024.
Hopped onto Live Chat on 7th January and gave them the references for being promised the Zero Fixed when I ask for it. Rep said the backend team will execute the switch with 7-10 working days.
Whilst twiddling my thumbs waiting for that to happen I was given an eyewatering first bill at the HomeEnergy Secure rates starting from 7th Dec. They also took my first Direct Debit accordingly.
On 21st January put me on Zero Fixed Oct 22, CANCELLED the first bill, backdated me to Zero Fixed rates from Dec 8th, and applied a credit to my account for the extra money I paid for the expensive tariff! Very happy.
Issues still to sort out:
- E.ON Next (who I was on supply with for about 10 days) owing me Symbio credit
- Final Neon Reef statement not showing my second Direct Debit, though my NR app shows the correct credit balance
Come March, I plan to cheekily ask BG if I could switch my gas to them and make me a Dual Fuel customer on the same tariff as the elec.0 -
so I’ve been moved to the October fix at British Gas. The unit rate is 21.583. That’s still significantly more than what we were on at neon reef.
is that right?0 -
