so I’ve been moved to the October fix at British Gas. The unit rate is 21.583. That’s still significantly more than what we were on at neon reef.

    is that right?
There's two variants of the tariff, with Direct Debit and without, I suspect you're on the tariff without. If you set up a direct debit via the online chat, you should see the unit price drop to 19.something pence per unit. This is more than NR, and nowhere near as good as the 12.028p I paid on my Symbio, but it's the best you could hope for and with the price cap projected to be around 31p by April, it's a bargain.

As above, there are different prices for different payment methods. I'm considering it a bargain for now, and definitely for the April to October period. My unit price is 17p ish.

Our BG account is set up ok on the SOLR rate (couldn't get the fixed tariff others have managed) & we're on DD for the whole billed amount each month.

Checked my NR account earlier in the week & nothing has changed so still no final bill, we'll be owed nearly £300 when finalised.  No real update from BG on balances to be transferred, just they have all the info now & it's being processed.

Our previous supplier Green went bust on 22.09.21 & we only got our refund cheque from SOLR Shell recently, after a fair amount of chasing, so 4 months.

Are we realistically looking at perhaps another 2 months max for this to get sorted?  There isn't any set maximum timescale on this process at the moment is there?

My policy with SOLR refunds is to give the SOLR 3/4 months to sort it out, then if I've not had a refund I raise a complaint regardless of what they say about it, just to get the ball rolling. That way if after a further 8 weeks I've not had a refund, I can go directly to the ombudsman or the county court (I'm in two minds as to which route to use at the moment).

I've now set up my DD with BG. At least the annual usage estimate seems reasonable compared to my NF usage.
As a relatively low user, they appear to have read the previous figures correctly which often isn't the case when I start on a new supplier which can grossly over estimate Kwh annual usage (usually saying it will be corrected later) .
Looking forward to my NF credit coming through in due course which will be about a month and a halfs cost at current rates.
  • I think I asked earlier in the process - but does anyone who had economy 7 with NR have both a daytime and nighttime rate with the welcome tariff with BG or (like me) just the one, daytime, rate? If you do have a nighttime rate given, did this happen automatically or did you have to chase? For me everything else appears to have been set up correctly.

I have Economy 7 but my BG account showed a single rate. I made a complaint to BG and, today, I had a telephone call confirming that I have been now switched to Economy 7, which I confirmed on-line during the phone call. The BG agent also explained that I was on a direct debit rate but could pay in arrears using a credit card until informed otherwise. Also, I should be getting a BG bill in early January.

Making a complaint seemed to be the quickest way to get this problem resolved and it was handled very well, although it seems a bit over-the-top.
Have now sorted the missing night time rate via a 15 minute online chat session (although still need to wait for my online account to update to be certain). A positive initial impression of BG customer services to renew my acquaintance with them (I never had to contact them when I was previously with them)...

Or so I thought... 4 weeks later, and still no nighttime rate on my tariff, another contact with BG customer services and they are now saying that there was an issue with the meter details during the transfer that will be fixed 'soon' (hopefully not on geological timescales) and backdated when fixed.

  • I thought with British Gas under the solr welcome tariff it didn’t matter if you paid by dd or quarterly they were both the same

It doesn't matter for the Solr tariff, unless you get Cashback for a particular method. I get 2% Cashback for direct debits to fuel. None of my credit cards etc. Pay that much, so I'd rather use direct debit.

Some of us have managed to get a different tariff just be getting lucky on chat.
