We have 5 days on the Amalfi coast booked for mid-August, all fully flexible. Not quite the Maldives we were hoping for this year, but should be lovely none the less, especially with (American) tourist numbers being so low.
Visited there many years ago ,stunningly beautiful place, take a good camera.
  • I'm really in two minds about booking holidays at the moment. My sensible head tells me that booking anything is risky and there's no harm in holding out. My heart, however, is seeing low prices everywhere, making lists of places I want to go and desperate to book. Travelling is a major source of joy in my life and I need something to look forward to!
I have got a week in Crete in October this year (rebooked on a credit note after holiday earlier in year got cancelled) - I figure worst that happens is it gets cancelled and we get the refund eventually. I am really seriously tempted by some of the offers on long haul holidays later in 2021 but haven't taken the plunge yet. If I do I will make sure I read the T&CS extra carefully before paying any money.
For me it is more of a money/ restricted activity consideration to be fair - if I was in a high risk category as far as the virus goes I definitely wouldn't even think about booking now. (Although I'm also partly of a mind that Covid isn't going anywhere, a vaccine could take years, and whilst avoiding unnecessary risk is wise,  we can't put our lives on hold indefinitely).

I think our Australia trip isn’t going to happen, we’re waiting on SIA’s information on flights hoping that we will fall into their travel waiver policy and we can get a refund, then we can look at our BA positioning flights and our two internal, flights, hotels are all cancellable with nothing to pay.
We are looking to take a holiday when we should have been in Australia, we’re keeping a very close eye on which Caribbean islands are open to British tourists without too many restrictions and fingers crossed we can get 10 days or so with no problems.

Just out of interest, when were you hoping to travel? I was looking at the Caribbean as a possibility too - probably not to travel until well into next year, but interested in how soon people are thinking of making bookings (obviously it's always a personal judgment, but intrigued by how others are approaching it)

It’s difficult, I have seen an excellent deal with EasyJet for Nov to Egypt, but FO is still saying we shouldn’t go there.....

I don't think I'd book outside of Europe before the end of this year tbh and I have quite a high risk tolerance level!

Mid September/early October, as I said, I’m keeping a very close eye on what’s going on with other countries in terms of what requirements are in place prior to going and what’s going on at resorts.

SIA have now updated their policy for dates which include our date of departure, we can request flight credits to use by December ‘21 or request a refund. We will definitely want to make a trip to Australia as soon as we can but should we be wary of taking flight credits just in case there’s still an issue with entry into the country?

I'd take the refund personally. You can always stick it into a sperate bank account and earmark it as the "Australia money" for when you feel more confident making the booking. Although if your experience is anything like mine the refund will take a while to come through!
  • I am about to weaken! I had a quote for a week at Ikos Andalucia and I think we are going to go for it. It will be mid September but looking at the weather now here in the UK in July, sun seems unlikely. So a staycation will not do.
