Scottish power legally have 2 week to get my credit back to me after I leave, so I expect my credit to be refunded by the 14th of December.

Incorrect - they have 6 weeks to produce your "final" bill (which will be based on your carry over credit from Tonik, the initial agreed reading and the final reading you will have given to your new supplier just prior to your switch) - they then have 2 weeks to issue any credits.
  • Well I asked Tonik directly to explain this offset payment and don't give me any wishy washy nonsense. I want direct answers.

Day 3 still no reply. They were quick to reply earlier when they could 'prove' they had included my payment. I countered with highlighting the bill they made accessible for me which showed no payment.

    No reply.
  • @JustAnotherSaver - I forwarded my email on again this morning but to tonikadministration@deloitte.co.uk about my July offset bill saying - I would very much appreciate a reply to the below email, as my July query (being adrift £88.41) is still outstanding from my original email (20Nov) before I will accept the final bill.

  • I've finally managed to sign into the scotish power website and see my account. I was previously seeing an error once logged in. Time to switch then as it appears each tarriff I can switch to on SPs website is £30 more than the best on mse energy club.

    I'm new to all this.
Before Tonik collapsed, I was on Green Super Power (1 Year) v4 (from June 2020)
The last email received from SP was Oct 30th:-

    =======

We're pleased to let you know that your transfer from Tonik Energy is now well underway and your new ScottishPower account is currently being set up. This follows the energy regulator, Ofgem, appointing us to take over your energy supply as a result of Tonik Energy ceasing trading. Please be assured you're in safe hands - ScottishPower is a well-established energy supplier with a bright future.

We've provided details of your tariff below, as well as some important information to help you get the most from ScottishPower.

    Your tariff

We've put you on our Basic Energy V2 tariff - this is an exclusive tariff created specifically for former customers of Tonik Energy, and provides some of our most competitive prices. You can view all your tariff information including your prices, estimated annual costs, Tariff Information Label and key terms by clicking the link below.
    ========
    etc etc.
I'm confused about the current state of the change over...
I can login to my SP account using the same details from when I used to be a SP customer some years ago.
It shows the new tariff as 'Basic Energy V2 Online'.
It indicates a balance which is the monthly DD I was paying to Tonik. Next DD date: 20th Nov 2020. Payment Due: 18th Jan 2021.
They appear to be initially keeping the same DD amount even though SP prices per unit are higher.
I assume at some point the DD will be revised.
The SP Tariff options don't look cheap compared to my original Tonik tariff or other suppliers so I want to switch ASAP.
I've not received a final bill from Tonik.
When is the earliest I can switch to another supplier?

  • Dosh37 - first thing is to email Tonik and ask for final bill. I did that weeks ago and they responded quickly. check in Tonik space to see if your final bill is showing (if you haven't done so already). You could email CEO on Keith.anderson@ scottishpower.co.uk (many have) and complain about lack of progress and lack of info and communication.

@dosh37 - Ofgem advice here - https://www.ofgem.gov.uk/publications-and-updates/tonik-energy-customers-your-questions-new-supplier-scottish-power - all I know after contacting SP - they would only let me switch supplier 28 days after being updated on the national database (ie my actual meter numbers appearing in my SP account) to avoid account closure issues.  I really don't know what the right answer should be!!  Although based on Ofgem's comments you should be able to switch at any time, but it might cause issues/delays in finalising your SP account.  After that 30 Oct SP email, my next email from SP was 23 Nov about my final Tonik bill credit being applied to my account, as I got my final Tonik bill back on 5 Nov (despite it being dated 3 Nov) - only when I chased them due seeing others on here already had their bills.
Plus do check your bank account on SP DD - as might went out on 20 Nov despite SP online account saying a date far into the future...

I just checked my Tonik account:-
The last statement available is dated 26 Sept 2020. It indicates I was in Credit by £58.23.
The statement also indicates "Price guaranteed until: 25 May 2021". Will this price guarantee be honoured by SP?
I can't see anything on the Tonik web pages that looks like a Final Bill.
    The 'Help' page indicates:-
If your account is in credit this will be transferred to ScottishPower which you will be able to see on your first statement.
I can see no mention of this credit on the SP website.
  • @dosh37 - email help@tonikenergy.com to chase your final bill.  No SP are putting us on deemed tariff Basic energy V2 which is 25% plus more expensive than Tonik.

I emailed Tonik as advised and they were quick to provide a Final Bill.
Rather than wait for the SP account details to be updated I decided to initiate a switch immediately. I don't want to be paying the higher SP tariff rates any longer than I have to - especially in winter.
I originally intended to go back to Octopus. They are not the cheapest but I found their Customer Service to be pretty good. Unfortunately Octopus recently increased their cheapest fixed tariff (just a couple of days ago) so now I'm looking at Avro.
Like Octopus, Avro have no early exit fees so I can always switch again if I'm not happy.
Does anyone have experience of Avro Customer Service? I read somewhere that they can take a long time to pick up the phone.
