Tonik Energy

Just want to add to the discussion around Tonik Energy's "computer upgrade". I have been waiting since January for them to update my account balance with submitted meter readings. Reached the end of my tether so now switching to a new supplier. Hope Tonik will repay the credit balance promptly!!

  • I hope so too-but I wouldn't hold your breath. I have been waiting for 7 weeks and lots of people longer than me.
  • This company have not been rechristened Toxic Energy for no good reason. Read the comments on "Tonik Energy Bad Experience Group" on Facebook, or Google reviews, or Trustpilot one star reviews. There is one common theme throughout - delays in producing final bills for migrating customers and delays in making refunds. The words used by some reviewers are such that any self respecting company would take remedial legal action. Definitely one to avoid at all costs.
  • Agree with both gadge2 and inspectorperez. I switched from Tonik (Toxic) in the new year because they were poor when I moved to them (SoEnergy weren’t much better) and I too am still awaiting my credit refund. Avoid and perhaps Ofgem need to step in?

If anyone has a large credit balance and is thinking of switching away from Tonik, maybe try to get as much of your credit balance refunded as possible before initiating the switch. I have just managed to get £150 refunded in under a month (first email to them on 4th April and received the refund this morning).
Given all the problems they have been having, they may be prioritising existing customers rather than sorting things out for those that have already left. I know this doesn't help anyone that has already switched and is still waiting.
    Good luck

  • Tonik took over my gas and electric and charged for both.  Months later it turned out they hadn’t actually requested the electricity from my previous company and I had a bill from them too.  Lots of phone calls and emails later where Tonik promised various compensation etc then changed their minds....I ended up going to Energy Ombudsman.  All my complaints were upheld and Tonik had to pay the difference between their bills and my old more expensive supplier, compensation and a letter of apology.  I really would not touch this company!
  • Also not had an updated Statement since Jan . Have sent in regular monthly readings. They asked for a reading on 15/4 a few hours after I submitted readings. Nothing heard since. Also owed money for recommending family member.  Ofgem are a toothless animal. They wont  get involved unless Tonik agree it’s a dispute. Also bemused as to why Tonik were Martins first recommendation on tonight’s Money Show.

I switched from Tonik this time last year, and I have just received an email asking me to settle the 'unpaid bill' I paid when I left...
  • Been with tonic for a number of years and had very good service until recently. No statement since January and two request by email for credit to be reimbursed ignored! I would have recommended them to friends etc but not now.☹️
  • I've been with Tonik since Feb 2010. They have continuously ignored all my emails regarding my tariff. The website is absolutely useless as it has not shown any information as to which tariff I am on, or payments made to them.

However the people you speak to on the phone are always very pleasant if not efficient in giving the correct information.

I have now left them and switched elsewhere cancelling my direct debit so I owe them some money. As I believe it would be difficult to get them to refund monies to me. I'm letting them chase me!!!!

  • I tried switching to Tonik recently from E-ON. I gave it a month and they have somehow managed to not contact E-On at all in the whole switching process and so I get billed by both for May 2020! very incompetent customer care, made 4 phone calls and there's no evidence of them keeping track of an issue coherently. Asked them to cancel my account then & there.
