thanks

I hope it's okay to add to this thread about my issue:
I'm being harassed by UK Search Limited on behalf of Tonik Energy.
Back story: I moved into this property on 20th January 2020. I signed up to the property 3rd Jan 2020 and was told that the energy was supplied by Tonik, but I could change to whoever I liked and could do so before moving in because nobody was living there. I told the letting agent that I'd prefer to continue with British Gas - no problem, the letting agent would give the meter readings to Tonik to close the landlord's account (but they might be in touch with a small bill for a few days of use).
When I moved in, a letter from British Gas had already arrived to confirm that the switch was going ahead and that they would be in touch. A few days later, I received a welcome letter from Tonik (with account number and tariffs). I checked on my British Gas account page; the switch was showing on my account. Not long after, I received further letters from British Gas to say that my "current supplier" had stopped the switch at my request. I confirmed with British Gas that I wanted to go ahead with the switch. They said they would give the latest meter readings to Tonik. British Gas formally started supplying the electricity on 11th Feb, and gas on 20th Feb. So Tonik were supplying the electricity for 22 days, and the gas for 31 days.
Tonik's website at the time didn't work and when I checked again, it didn't recognise the account number. I assumed it was because the account was now closed and I expected a final bill. I never heard anything from Tonik - no final bill, no reminders, no emails, no letters, no calls. Quite simply I never heard the name Tonik again.
Then on 21st September, I received a letter from UK Search Limited for "energy arrears" of £344. I called the company and they said they had no information to provide but that the debt started on 20th January 2020 and that "when you switch your energy it can take months, you just need to pay what you owe". I contacted Tonik and they said that my details do not match what is on the account (the account number given on the original welcome letter, referenced in the debt collection letter), even though the debt collection agency had my name and address. Tonik then stopped answering emails a few days later and couldn't provide a bill even via email. They never confirmed nor denied the amount of £344.
By 5th October, the letters from UK Search Limited had already reached the stage of threatening court action. I have since contacted them to ask them to stop harassing me and to provide evidence that I owe this money. They said they would get in touch with Tonik. But if Tonik have now ceased trading, how can they request this proof?
And if a bill is produced, I still contest that I could owe £344 for such a short amount of time. For example, my combined bill for Nov-Dec 2019 was £82, and the bill for Feb-March was £74. Using independent calculators with the meter readings from before moving in and from the first British Gas bill, and the tariffs given in the Tonik welcome letter, the bills for Tonik should be around £23 for gas, and £45 for electricity.
How can Tonik go to a debt collection agency without contacting me first? This was not a situation where I have ignored the company. Had they sent a bill long ago, I would have engaged with them. No opportunity or evidence has been provided to confirm that this amount given by UK Search Limited is correct.0 -

#weareallinthistogether.... or notI don't know about the balance but i've cancelled my direct debit and received no email at all.As for account number - that was in previous emails received by Tonik.0 -
If you are switching energy supplier check the referrals board/threads as there may be inducements/referral bonuses to join some suppliers. I have saved £100 by using a referral code and someone else using my code. I didn't know of such things until another forumite explained it to me when he read that I was thinking of leaving Tonik Energy.1

Why is the Regulator not getting involved with supporting customers who have been left in limbo by Tonik collapse? We should be given proper advice about what to do next. One for Martin’s Team to help with please! JT0

I moved out of Tonik. They created allot of problems when trying to move my gas supply. They only managed to move electric.
Now I am with So Energy for both Gas and Electric. So Energy has sent fibka meter reading to Tonic on 11th Sept. Tonik had no record of receivung it last time I rang then.
My account is just ovetb£100 in credit. Who would be repaying this money back on closed account - Scottish Power?
Just been to SP website and input my details in and they cannot recognise me as an Tonik customer.
Thanks

I was told by someone at sp they will be honouring the tonik tariff we are on for six mths but I wait with baited breath. I will be changing after that time I’d that is the case but I have a further issue in that bulb hadn’t updated the industry when they changed my meter, so my opening read was wrong I was finally getting somewhere with tonik when they collapsed so I need to get all that sorted.0
