  • Hi, we need some help. We have a holiday booked with Jet2 holidays for 28 June, we’ve only paid the deposit. Jet2 say they are commencing flights on 17 June, we would rather just cancel. However the balance needs to be paid on 3 May, they will automatically take the balance from my credit card but we have no way of contacting them because their website says they are not taking phone calls at the moment. To complicate  things our yearly travel insurance runs out on the 18th April and at this present time they wont renew it so we won’t have travel insurance.
    What do we do?
    Any advice appreciated.

    Hi all,
I have a package holiday booked with Jet2 for 13th June, I have had the email to say no flights til 17th June so our holiday is cancelled, and to wait until we are contacted, which wont be anytime soon judging by other posts on here.

The problem I have is I have paid the deposit however the outstanding balance was not due until 18th April, in 2 days.

Now as my holiday is effectively cancelled it seems nonsensical to pay anymore, especially given I may only get vouchers back, which in the current climate I would rather have the money back. However if I dont pay it by 18th then it will be cancelled for non-payment and il lose my deposit.

Would that still be the case given jet2 have essentially cancelled it already, its just im at the very back of a long queue??

I have tried ringing but they arent taking calls it appears, I have contacted via twitter but am not hopeful I will get a response by 18th

Is this something I could do a chargeback for on my credit card to get my deposit back?

Or am i saying goodbye to my deposit?

Any advice appreciated, thanks in advance

They have cancelled your holiday, so not paying the balance does not matter.

Jet2 Holidays are ABTA and ATOL protected for failure of the company. You also have cover with your insurance policy (but check for exclusions) and S75 protection via your credit card company (assuming you have paid using one)

If Jet2 cancel your holiday and offer alternative dates or vouchers for use in the future then that may be the best you can hope for (despite the fact that you should receive a cash refund)

You need to read the many comments posted in the Coronavirus section of this forum regarding Jet2 to get an idea of what you will encounter should you decide to pay the balance.

Do not pay the balance, your holiday is cancelled. You will get the option of changing your holiday to a later date or you will get a refund. They are difficult to get through to at present because 80% of their staff are furloughed. Your money is safe and you will get your deposit back.

It's up to you.  Your options are to cancel, and to forfeit whatever amount your contract says you'd forfeit by cancelling now or leave it until Jet2 five updated guidance nearer the time.

If it were me, I'd wait.  If it gets cancelled by Jet2 you'll get a voucher with which to can re-book.  Or it will go ahead.

Good advice.....your options don't decrease as I can see it so preserve them.

17th June is just a guess by Jet2.  They have to pick some sort of date, to enable them to work on refunds/rebookings etc, and hopefully limit the amount of people calling them.  Nobody really knows whether things will be moving by then or not.  And even if they can restart flying, I find it very unlikely they will be able to go from nothing to their full programme in a day.

Good advice above, hold off, you've got nothing to lose anyway, and it's as likely to be cancelled as it is to go ahead.
