You have to delete ones you don’t want. Annoying.
Now the quotes do come through as quoted quotes and you can delete it manually if you don't want or need it, just like you can delete most of the rest of the post manually if you don't want it or need it. For me, that's better functionality.
You have noticed on your Profile page there is a 'quote settings' option which allows you to choose when reading the forum whether the quote trees will be automatically 'folded up' one or more levels. So if people don't want to see quoted quotes within their view settings, they can set it to fold at level 1 and then when reading the forum, just 'unfurl' them at the press of a button if they feel like it.2 -

Anyone know how, or if, we can do this in this new and exciting* upgraded.
* There may be a smidging of irony there
I hope they they fix the notification pane soon, as it’s one of the new features i’m really starting to appreciate (even in its current confused state). Hopefully more people will also upload avatars over the next few days.
......and why is the 'new posts' button only available on the landing page?
This function WAS working earlier yesterday, so it's obviously a glitch and hopefully will become a useful addition when it has been ironed out. It's not that long since the changes were made, and it's still the weekend (and it seems plenty is happening) so I think we can give them a bit of time to work out what matters most to most users, and how we're using it.
Obviously if I was paying for this I'd be going through the contract right now and checking KPIs/penalties BUT as I'm not paying, and it's not causing me any real issues (other than wasted time, and I can achieve that perfectly well without help) I'm prepared to give the team some leeway.3 -
Internet Explorer, Windows 7. And no, I won’t be replacing my 11 year old laptop anytime soon!1

Apologies if this has already been raised, using search function didn't throw up any matches.
I'm using safari and most annoying thing is when I use the backarrow or CTRL + [ to go to the previous forum page, it flashes up and then disappears whilst it reloads the page from scratch.Originally Posted by shortcrust

Thought I would add a few comments as so many options have not been carried across from the old site and it is so frustrating trying to figure out how use the new forum. It has taken me 3 days to get through this thread alone as reading it with all the white space gives me a headache so I have to keep taking a break and in the meantime it has increased in size again and again. Still trying to figure out the new functions and its not easy with no guide.I visit a different forum which changed last year and they too had teething problems, but nowhere near as many as MSE. What they did was post several help threads on using the new forum to make the crossover easier as well as a snagging thread, though it wasn't 36 pages long and so hard to get through.
- First MSE needs to post a dummy guide (or several) to the new functions (and lack of the old functions) on the main page so its the first thing you see (it can be read only to stop all the chatter), but it would answer a lot of the questions on this thread. I think it needs to be a dummy guide as a few people have posted suggestions on this thread that are so technical I have no idea what they are talking about and so they don't help me, it needs to be easy and simple for the majority of users to understand.
- They need to reinstate the user control panel as so many of the functions were helpful. The fact we cannot personalise our board preferences, our view/display options, and more importantly the ability to choose what subscriptions we want email notifications for is so frustrating. I have had to turn off all my subscriptions, both emails and pop-ups as it was just doing my head in with the constant emails and pop-ups when there no need for it. Why make that the default to bombard users with emails like this, surely you should give people the choice to add what they want, not have to find out how to remove them all.
- In the old days you could subscribe to a thread and choose what type of subscription you wanted, now its all or nothing, which is pointless.
- What happens when the clocks change, there is no way to update the timezone so the times will be all over the place.
- The PM's why just an inbox where are our sent messages and how are you supposed to sort them, it is just a jumbled mess. I always just kept the latest email in a chain as it had all the other messages, but now its so hard to make any sense of whatsoever and messages I have previously deleted years ago are back and I agree with the Data Protection issue, this is not good practice.
- The view is awful on mobile, as so tiny you have to make it so large to read you then have to scroll across the page. Its slightly better on laptop if you change to 110% and surprisingly best on my tablet when in landscape, which I rarely use for this site. I just decided to check them all out to see which was best. I have no idea who this new forum is aimed at, but there are a lot of unhappy users, no idea why no user testing before it was changed over like previously done.
- So much open spaces and yet the text and icons/badges, etc are so small you strain to see so I am constantly having to make my screen bigger to read it comfortably, never had this issue before or on any other site. So time consuming and frustrating and after nearly 15 years I think my time on the forum will definitely suffer from this unless it is sorted quickly.
- I always have a lot of tabs open on my browser and always knew which was MSE from Martin's picture, now the image in the tab is so small it is hard to tell what it is supposed to be, why change it from the familar image we all know?
- Wall - what on earth is this, how do you get to it, how do others get to it and what is the point?
- Notifications - what are the point as every time I move to a new page there are more of them. I have my subscribed threads, why do I also need notifications, they are pointless and not needed and now all they show is the person's avatar so why bother.
- I am getting so many error pages it is doing my head it and I have tried deleting all the old cookies and it made no difference.
- Why no post numbers, in the old days you could link to a post to make it easier for people, now you cannot do this.
- Why is the "New Post" button only shown on the Forum Home and not on all pages made the site so much easy to use.
- Why does the front page of the forum have no categories until you choose the option "All Forums", surely the first page should have this to default without out figuring out you need to choose this as an option.
- What is "Favourited" is there even such a word!!
- Why no thanks on a lot of threads and what is compli-ment supposed to mean and why can you only see the last 10 people who thanked you?
Sorry its such a long post, but just needed to get off my chest and though it was best altogether.13 -

You can't edit twice in a row without refreshing the page. Because of the unnecessarily large and prominent placement of the CANCEL edit button, you edit a post then cancel it by mistake, then the cogwheel stops offering you 'edit' so you have to faff and refresh the page. Only to hit the darn 'cancel' again...
The first choice should not be CANCEL or PREVIEW, it should be SUBMIT POST with the other option further down and smaller.
The cogwheel to edit shouldn't be at the top of posts anyway, should be under it and should be called 'edit' (not an unremarkable wheel).
Secondly:
What has happened to the ability to click on a username and see all posts by that person? That is a real loss!
All you get is taken to their profile and no ability to see recent posts they made. So, if I am helping a newbie with a private parking ticket scam, I quite often say that I've just answered the same question 5 mins before and to click on my username to see it. Can't do that any more and on that busy board the regulars can't be expected to go and rummage to find a post they made somewhere on someone's thread, among maybe 20 replies they've just fired out.
Thirdly, why can't we underline a word in our posts, or where is that option?
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
