    Ugly, unloved or unused = - looking to achieve 2020 things out in 2020 :) (5.5 items/ day) - current tally 175/ 2020

    • Post at least three gratitudes daily please. We like to hear what you are thankful for. the rain holding off for my 1hr 10 min round trip walk to collect DS3 from school - it hammered it down about 5 mins after we got home!, the tow truck guys saying that I didn't have to go with them (and my car) to the garage - saving me a walk home from the garage (around 45min) in the rain, getting some thing sorted/ recycled/ binned
    • Give. Money, time, food. There are others out there who need you! And look after yourself too. - DONE

MIA for a few days. Kitchen lights kept tripping electrics on Sunday so we have a gloomy kitchen - got a lovely local electrician out to them yesterday and several of the cables in the loft space had burned through:eek: Upshot was a £130 invoice for yesterday (took 4 hours to find faults and leave it safe, if not fixed = we have lights dangling out of the kitchen ceiling and several removed) and we need new lights which looks like a new ceiling (and new coving and painting.... and the removal of some cupboards to enable this to happen....) as we had non-standard (ie large) lights before and the plasterboard has also been burned by the dodgy lights and just crumbles away.... Also need a new fuseboard - if we had a newer style one it would likely have picked up the issue before this - and he will inspect the electrics elsewhere in the house at the same time (package deal and well worth it - we are aware we have dodgy electrics in places....) Dread to think of the cost but the fuseboard/ inspection part alone is £520 - without fixing any faults (except minor ones) that may be found.... and the removal of the ceiling and a new one an painting and new coving will be another large expense..... sigh.....

And we still have a broken dishwasher (for more than a month now...) - think I'll hold off on buying a new one with the electric expenses AND my car...… decided to 'die' whilst driving off the drive this morning so it's in the garage - am awaiting the cost of replacing the engine cooler thermostat thing..... ho hum....

However, we have a stash of cheap choc oranges still in the house - and Silent Witnesss is on tv tonight :T

  • Spends day today. I bought a medicine, then to celebrate payday I burned through £5.96 at Mr L’s on store cupboard items.
Usually if I’m at work I have a rule with Mr L’s, to “buy two” because the stock can be a bit variable and the queues are long! But as I’m off now, I just bought one of each I needed.

Happy that over last 2 weeks I have only spent £10 on fares, although I will now need to buy another pass to use in hometown, and a return ticket to come back and no doubt various other fripperies such as food. Well, at least I have it there to dip into I suppose!

Can't compete with f0xh0les productivity but I have sorted out my bedside trolley. I have a small plastic box (won't go in plastic recycing so will have to keep using it) containing my pills and there instructions. This is sitting inside a metal tin (one of DS3's old Yu-gi-oh card tins - very useful size) with medicine creams, vicks, inhalers, antiseptic wipes and nail scissors/ files/tweezers and the like.

The tin is inside a small plastic basket which has larger tubes of cream (antiseptic and mousturising - several of them all upended to let the remaining contents drip down ) bandages and an unused USB flash drive. All around in all the slots between the different containers are pens and pencils (use ups), a card reader for pinsentry, 2 comb, old and new passport, numbers for replacement inks for the printer, shoelaces and glasses cloths.

Now it's been repacked properly, this takes up just under half of the top shelf / tray of my bedside trolley. I also found £1-11, £1-20 and, hidden amongst the sequins, a 20p piece (all into the 366 penny tin). If I keep this up I will be a millionaire by the end of the week (still don't think there will be much more - may be 3p on the kitchen table).

I had cheese spread on ys buns again but have just microwaved 3 small lumps of cooking bacon and opened a tin of pineapples to go with them. No spends today so NSD 8, I think.. Loaded the dishwasher whilst the bacon cooked (not set it off as there is still a small space and the cutlery drawer is empty so worth a trawl round to see where they have hidden it all).

Today I am grateful for a rest, a shower and easy food from the cupboard (and finding money, lots and lots of pennies).
My mission in life is not only to survive, but to thrive and to do so with some Passion, some Compassion, some Humour and some Style.

    Good evening!

Totally cream crackered tonight. Being around lots of people just drains my battery! Quiet evening in though and an early night I think...

    Today I am grateful for:

    1) A visit from an old colleague at work and some lovely cake!
    2) My sofa, warm throw and dressing gown!
    3) Streaming TV (again!)

Yet another NSD; Today = NSD :starmod: 11

My trick is taking all my cards out of my wallet except for when I go shopping. Forgot the other day and caused chaos at the 'debit/credit card only' till with bags of shopping scanned and a queue of people... and then... erm... oops!!! :rotfl: That'll teach me for breaking my own rules!!!

Have a good evening folks x

  • I am checking in just to say I'm still here, but I'm on my way to bed. I'm still not sleeping and I'm very stressed and grumpy today, which I don't want to just sit and moan about on here. My brain hurts and I literally did 11 hours today without any sort of break. So now I'm showered and ready for bed I'm going to watch the telly up there and then hopefully sleep a little better.
Not a nsd today as I've done an online grocery order for the week ahead.

Oops, sorry for no updates, been tired and busy!

My NSD & savings plans have had a hiccup. I have decided to get braces to fix my teeth. I've been getting more and more selfconsious about my wonky front tooth, and its slowly working its way wonkier and more obvious. The initial appointment cost £50, the next appointment with xrays etc will be £150, and overall the treatment will cost £3700 (the cheapest option!)
I have £1700 in savings, and bf has kindly offered to loan me the rest from his inheritance, which will save me credit repayment fees and give me a little more flexability.
The credit option at the dentist wanted monthly repayments of £160-£200. I'm planning on paying bf minimum of £100, more if I can. This will help if I have a short month.

Back to work this week (boo hiss). I've still been working on the Minimalist challenge, I've been posting update videos to facebook, and people have been asking for my junk, so that gets rid of that!
Bf has also found the decluttering bug, got home the other day to find 2 shelves of DVDs gone.

Question everything: - Your habits :- Sax Practice. - Been slacking on this, I do have a 4 hour band practice tomorrow.
Ugly, unloved or unused - Minimalist Challenge. Day 15 - 15 Magazines.
Exercise your mind and body. Did a 10k race on Sunday, and boxing class today.
    Savings.
Thankfulness. 1) Thankful for happy memories. 2) Thankful for the new recliner seats in the cinema. 3) Thankful for family & friends.

    16 NSDS minimum. 12/31 NSD.

    Evening all :)
Goodness Greent, what a nightmare with your kitchen lights
Hope you feel better soon Mothernerd
And wishing you a good night's sleep CCL :(

Question everything: - Decided to bite the bullet and buy a new laptop instead of paying for yet more repairs :(
Ugly, unloved or unused - Nothing today, though I have been doing quite well with this :)
Exercise your mind and body. Walked to the post office today for free exercise and to save fuel. It is a couple of miles there and back, so worthwhile for an old thing like me :rotfl:Also did a little gardening before getting rained off.
Savings. I see in Martin's email that the Santander 123 account is dropping its interest rate and cash back rates. I have been using one of these as a savings account, so will have to rethink :(
Thankfulness. Thankful for not getting drenched walking into town and back this morning, free food from the garden (dug the remaining leeks and an enormous parsnip), and having enough.
16 NSDS minimum. Still on 6 / 16 NSDs, spendy this week due to ordering the new laptop. My current, old one now needs a new battery, and will need a new wireless thingummy any time now. I spent £120 getting several other issues fixed back in November, so decided no more :( Anyway, I used money from savings, not credit, got a good deal in the sales and remembered to go through quidco to get a little bit of cash back. Also had to renew OH's passport. Really need a NSD tomorrow!
Give. Money, time, food. I have done my food bank donation for this month :)

raphael I completely understand the teeth/self-consciousness thing, I'm in the middle of having braces too. Not very MSE or very frugal but sometimes if it makes you feel good about yourself and less self-conscious it's worth it.

NSD number 8 here. Had a really rubbish sleep with back pain last night. Decided before I went to bed to renew my subscription to a back pain/CBT app. I used it for a couple of months last year and am at the point where I think I need it again sadly. Got up and took some pretty strong painkillers on an empty stomach without thinking, then spent most of the morning feeling sick as a dog (I never normally have breakfast until about 11 while I'm at work). Finally wore off at about midday.

Work has been okay, keeping me busy, although I did dream about work last night which didn't help with the sleep! So an early night tonight, going to go through a couple of exercises on the app before bed too. Gym in the morning before an exceedingly long day at work tomorrow. Roll on Saturday!
  • Hi all
I achieved another NSD today so now at 6/16.
Been to self employment and got free lunch. Then went to exercise class but I had prepaid for course of 6.
Got early start and long day tomorrow so just a quick update from me.
    Gratitudes:
    Free lunch
Meeting finished early so got home in daylight and avoided rush hour traffic
    Inspiring exercise teacher
Hot water bottle and brushed cotton bedding :)

Yesterday and today were both NSDs. 9/16! Only 5 more to go...

Today I am thankful for Netflix & Prime, the versatility of lentils and that Little Turtle likes them too!

Most DIY problems can be solved by a combination of spanner, pliers, screwdriver, Allan key and a blade. (Hold it, twist it, cut it!) Very occasionally industrial language, a hammer and an adhesive may need to be added to the mix. (Curse it, hit it, patch it!)
