Sorry I didn't see your post Zanzib, this thread's getting quite long and the important stuff is getting buried.
I take it you didn't accept their 20% offer? Wish I hadn't now!

I didn't take up the 20% discount but did get them to send me an email confirming the offer in writing, just in case. Like you, i thought it may be the easiest option with a large credit balance. I am glad i did not let this influence me in the end, after your experience.

Last time i was with bg it took me 12 months to persuade them to Bill me. Not the easiest when you are moving out of a shared house and need to get money for a utility you have taken liability for.

Well, BGs tardiness benefits some of us. I stopped my direct debit to Breeze on the day they stopped trading and never set one up with BG. I owe Breeze around £27 and who knows what I owe BG. Apart from the initial welcome email I haven't received any communication from them. I do have evidence of my end readings with Breeze and my start readings with Avro, so I can challenge any estimated readings BG eventually comes up with. As far as I'm concerned, they can take forever to bill me.

Am in the same position as you regarding money owed to Breeze. I cancelled my DD with them immediately and estimate I owe them £30ish. Will be interesting to see what happens first, will credit be paid to those that are due or will they chase Debts owed Breeze?

I'm in this position too and like you am just going to sit and wait, so glad I don't allow big balances to accrue with utility companies!

Anyone who is owed money by Breeze will (maybe!) get it from BG ,who will claim it back via the OFGEM protection scheme. If it's like most other supplier failures this could be months (in the case of One Select/Together Energy -years!!) as the administrators of Breeze won't see this as a priority!.
HOWEVER, money owed to Breeze will probably be rapidly passed on to a firm of sharks ,masquerading as debt collectors, and the threatening phone calls will start, backed up by zero evidence.

Oh joy, so here I am £560 down with little or no prospect of getting my money back and a £60 penalty on top if I choose to leave the expensive tariff British Gas have now conned me into buying.
What the hell do I do now?

I do believe you will get your credit balance returned. May take a while but am certain you will receive it. They have no choice as they are required by law.

    An update...
In response to my written complaint, British Gas complaints team in Rotherham just called me. Have to say the lady I spoke to was excellent this time. However I wasn’t happy with what she told me.
Apparently the 20% discount isn’t an ongoing discount it’s added as a lump sum credit at the 12 month point. So if you leave for whatever reason before 12 months is up you get nothing. I said to her that wasn’t made clear to me and I’d like to leave, so as a goodwill gesture they’ve promised to waive my early exit fees. On the subject of my credit, that will be sent to me by cheque or if I haven’t cancelled my direct debit, straight to my bank account. They aren’t in a position to say when that will be, as the money is still with the Breeze administrators. So could be quite a while methinks. She followed up with an email confirming the conversation. So I’m kinda happy for now at least. I told her my main gripe was not the tariff as such but the pain of having to deal with their offshore call centres when things don’t go to plan. Although she was much too professional to agree with me, I sensed her frustration on that score too!
Think it’s going to be Octopus or maybe So Energy who I used to be with - my main criteria will be good customer service, with price a close second.
