I can't read the gas one can the electric one it has a display like my old one did.
Do you think I would be able to get a dial gas meter back?
Or I would have to choose other than Avro?
Does your Gas meter have two buttons marked A & B? If so you can wake up the Gas Meter simply by pressing A then press A a second time to display your Gas Reading?

No A and B but has 2 buttons.   They are marked with symbols.
Left one has Up, left and return symbols.
Right one has Up, right and OK symbols.
    The display is blank.

That is unusual, the only other I have heard of has a keypad. Looking on-line reveals so may different types of smart meters?

I'm really no expert here but is there a manufacturers name and maybe a model number on that meter? If you can find that you or someone here can search for instructions.

It will do, it only has a little battery, which needs to last years.

British Gas who have taken over deny knowledge of my account. All around the houses and given the number 0843 557 3384 which I have found cost me £5.67. BEWARE
That rip-off number is nothing to do with British Gas.  You saw it on a scam site, probably courtesy of the Do Know Evil search engine.  If dozy Ofcom were any good they'd close it down.
Always avoid 084/087 numbers (with the possible exception of 0845 and 0870 if you're calling via the BT network).

The premium rate 0843 number is an example of the "call connection service" scam.

Use the PSA Service Checker to find the contact details for the third-party provider operating that Controlled Premium Rate Service and then contact that company for a refund of the call charges. Their contact number must start 01, 02, 03 or 080 otherwise that is a breach of BIS and PSA regulation. If the service is not registered with PSA that will be another breach of PSA regulation.

Report the premium rate number and the website promoting it to PSA. These services are covered by strict rules which have been recently extended and improved by PSA. There are large penalties that can be imposed by PSA for breaches of their rules, often running to hundreds of thousands of pounds per offence. Call connection services are covered by PSA regulation irrespective of the call cost or number range they operate on. PSA regulation therefore covers all such services operating on 084, 087 or 09 numbers.
