Got the email mentioned above last night. Same £400 for gas and elect as per others. Obviously just a ballpark figure given to everybody.
I'm hoping that when I give them my readings 'in two weeks' time, they will use those as the start readings for their ridiculous 'competitive' tariff and that they will ask for my Direct Debit details then too. As soon as I see that things are up and running - I'll instigate a switch, then cancel their Direct Debit so that they don't get a second bite of my money.
I'm looking at Avro Energy too now.0 -
Well after Chocmonster's post above, and what I had also been told yesterday I decided to strike again at them, to get clarity on this silly situation where no one seems actually to know when we will be charged BG rates from...
I got the same information as yesterday, in my case the 16th and 17th Jan, going against the vary information Chocmonster's CS handler mentioned, but I managed to strike a deal and equally have something coming in writing to confirm it.
In essence, confirmation that my charge with BG won't start until the Jan dates not December. In addition, as I also have a complaint already in with them, BG have agreed (after going through 4 people (CS handler, advocate, and two managers)) to cover any difference between the 22nd December and the Jan supply dates mentioned, should I be charged by BG instead of Breeze.
Some of you may wish to call them and see if they can do something for you, but either way BG will be picking up the pieces if they screw up now.:rotfl::D
I was also informed that the email send on the 30th December was just a generic email (that had the 22nd December start date for supply on) was just a general email to all Breeze customers and not reflective of when you will be charged BG rates from.
Edit: I also received the same latest email as others late on last night.0 -
What has confused me, never having been in this situation before, is that the Breeze computer systems are still up and running and churning out the usual meter reading reminders etc.
I sent them a reading on 27 Dec. which seemed to go through as normal and also produced a statement leaving me in credit of £42. I then cancelled the DD which was due on 2 Jan. & received another 3 emails the last of which was a "payment failed" after the bank clawed back the money.
I've also received the same generic emails from BG. To save my sanity I've decided to try & refrain from contacting them until the switch is complete, expecting them to make a complete hash of it anyway, & then I'll be looking elsewhere. I've also looked at Avro & one or two others as well.
Many thanks to all the very informative posters here.0 -
Using the MSE energy club search it show BG Energy And Boiler Cover Jan 2021 plan as only being £17 more expensive than breeze was. (Would have been cheaper with the cash back but since wouldn’t be able to switch using MSE won’t be able to get that.)
BUT checking on compare the market, that tariff is not listed, and the cheapest BG tariff would be some £200+ more expensive.
Checking the BG website seems that tariff dose exist but only available to selected customers.
Before I phone BG anyone know anything about the availability of this tariff or how we can get on it?0 -
So since we are being transferred by ofgen I suppose that tariff wont be available to us.
By the time you factor in the extra cost of the energy used while waiting for the transfer to go through to a new suppler the savings would be neglishable so would have gone with that.0 -
The tariff you mention is available only to those who do not have a BG Services contract (eg boiler breakdown cover). BG have been losing customers so this seems to be an attempt to buy new customers both for energy and services by offering a cheap energy tariff.0

And for those that can get that tariff you need smart meters which I dont want...0

Just received an email from BG.Your supply start date has changed
We wanted to let you know that your new gas supply start date is 17th January 2020.
What happens next
We'll get in touch when we need your first meter reading and to confirm your payment information.
Then, in a few weeks' time, your old supplier will send you your final bill, which you'll need to pay as normal.
This seems to tally with what some others have posted.0
