Please don't make the same mistake Interactive Investor made with their old functional, useful discussion forum turning it in to an amalgamated mess.

what do you mean by amalgamated?

So having proved via a poll that the clear majority of MSE forum members use desktops or laptops rather than mobile devices, you'd now like us to change the design deliberately to encourage more mobile users at the expense of those regular desktop/laptop users. That's so friendly.

The world has NOT gone mobile crazy. Just one small part of it who, although separated from their mothers at birth, still appear to have an umbilical cord to a mobile device that they are unable to be parted from.

I suspect it's because they want more Twitter-like spammy Facebook replies than actual well thought out, well laid-out replies which actually take time to compose. (like/like/share/share!)
Typing this response (on my phone, ironically) again reminds me why this is the worst possible way to to interact with frankly anything except a dial-tone.

Yes, it takes longer, but then again, when you're laying down your considered opinion, you should take some time.

They want to bash out some smart-a**e come-back on a phone rather than present a counter-argument or thesis that (shock-horror) requires some word-processing.

I think very few people would use that and you have the functionality now by using Google

The problem with using Google on the competition forum is that it brings up lots of duplicates and you can't see which items you have skipped or entered already , so you end up opening lots of links that you have already been to before.

I would like to see a way of doing a search which allows you to exclude skipped items.
  • I've got a feeling it will move away from running on vBulletin to some crappy dumb down basic system. Got to remember that MSE doesn't really exist anymore, it's all owned and run by the corporate chums at Money Supermarket.

there is nothing wrong with the original format and I hope it will still be available.

Pees me off when changes are made for no other reason as to keep IT techs busy.

It's the equivalent of moving stuff around in the supermarket.

Oh god. That annoys me too. Mine has just removed the central aisle so you have to walk miles to get to anything - and moved everything around.

Looks like everything will change from Mon 3 Feb 2020.

Moving to different platform which will not be vBulletin, so expect everything or anything to change
  • It'll move to some crappy system that is designed for mobile users to post quick comments only. Posts will probably get deleted and disappear after a couple of weeks. Just like how regional newspapers comments work on the end of an article.

If the forum is really "creaking" under the weight, then you would just update the hardware the forum runs on.
