You've been telling us for ages the Forum is broken and not working, so we're doing something about it.

Who exactly has been saying this? It doesn't appear to be broken and not working to me. It works fine.

You must have missed the post where someone said that their company's IT department motto was "if it isn't broken, keep fixing it till it is broken"

and MSE doesn't accommodate tablets and mobiles which make up 95% of internet traffic, and if that's not reflected on MSE forums it's BECAUSE they're not accommodated.

So having proved via a poll that the clear majority of MSE forum members use desktops or laptops rather than mobile devices, you'd now like us to change the design deliberately to encourage more mobile users at the expense of those regular desktop/laptop users. That's so friendly.

The world has NOT gone mobile crazy. Just one small part of it who, although separated from their mothers at birth, still appear to have an umbilical cord to a mobile device that they are unable to be parted from.

I certainly have not gone mobile crazy. Chance would be a fine thing. Well a decent signal would be an even better thing. I do not live far from a major city. Some days I have a signal & some like today I do not. Even my local town has a higher population than some cities. Time this was sorted out! But as I live in the North West I doubt it will. The really stupid thing is that I had a better signal 20 years ago. Unbelievable really!!! And if I'm honest getting seriously (I'll put the !! in myself) p!!!ed off

Not quite sure which part of my comment you're not getting but I can't help that, but to simplify it for you, it's like a fish stall reporting we're only get customers that want fish haaaaaaaaaaaaa how absurd. Anyone that does not know that 95 % of internet traffic is by mobile or tablet is living under a rock, and should MSE Forums accommodate those it would have 10 times more traffic and throwing insults at them won't diminish their numbers, and I'm also quite sure that there are some MSE elitists that shudder at the very thought of anyone else using the forum other than themselves, with their laptops 😁

Yeah, you can keep saying 95%, but you're wrong. It's about half.

    https://hostingfacts.com/internet-facts-stats/

And when you account for the fact that 90% of mobile time is spent on apps, that time spent on sites is higher on desktop, and that mobile use is not equal among countries, it's really really hard to support your argument.

Edit: and of course that there is an individual culture to sites and this one happens to perhaps skew towards the older or more serious browser who will probably be more likely to use an older or larger device. I'm not saying that there aren't problems with the mobile site, or that they shouldn't be addressed, but you're well off in your estimations.

Why not? MSE Martin hardly ever even posts on this place anymore, and I can fully understand why.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again.

The "frustrating bits" are the small number of trolls who now rule these boards with their multiple AE accounts, and I'm sorry, but a new platform is not going to address that one little bit.

If you are determined to keep this forum open, then I say invest the money in some proper, experienced forum moderators who will identify the real issues and boot the trolls and all their multiple AE accounts off. (and stop them creating new AE accounts to just resume where they left off when someone does actually PPR them)
People doing this part time, responding the best they can to alerts, and only then only having the time to review the individual post being reported, is not working.

This is not a criticism of those carrying out the task currently, who I am sure are doing the very best they can with the limited resources they are given, but a critisicm of those asking them to carry out the task without realising the enormity of the job if it is to be done properly.

Take a look at the recent, numerous posts on Trustpilot about how this site has rapidly deteriorated in recent times to see I am not alone in how I feel. 2.3/5

    Avoid the forums

    Don't use the forums.

The forums are a nasty cesspit

The Forum Is The Cancer of MSE

    etc, etc

100% agree. The forums are almost beyond saving and have become the unsupervised playground of some of the nastiest people I've encountered anywhere online.

They are an embarrassment to the original ethos of MSE, and their bad reputation is dragging the whole project down.

So yourself and the post you quote advocate shutting down the MSE forums.

If you're in a shop and you don't like their displays, just leave. No need to demand the shop closes down. Or announce it.

Just watch that revolving door doesn't hit you in the behind on your way out.

I use the 'really old' skin on my home PC with the green background.

Works perfectly for me. The newer version works well on my win10 work PC.

I realise there is a shift to mobile nowadays but personally i like it just fine the way it is. Hopefully, 'legacy version' will still be an option.
The 'green' version works fine on Android.

The only thing that I've complained about is the arbitrary way some threads are closed without reason. Everything else seems fine to me.
