    Quick energy calc question.

We've been away, and everything electric that can (reasonably) be turned off was turned off.

For the 72 hours (3 complete days) that we were away, this year the house used 1.05kwh per day.

Last year, for the same 3 days, we averaged 1 kwh.

Am I right in thinking that the difference works out at 0.00208 kw per day  (0.05 / 24)

So am I looking for something that was drawing an extra constant 21w ?   Or something else, but not constant
I'm getting old but and decimal places confuse me but my mental maths suggests it is 2W different.
I did wonder if i was getting my decimals muddled.

2w is "noise", but 20w might have been "something" IYSWIM.
Yikes…..when I start worrying about 2 or even 20w, I will take myself into a darkened room and have some stern words with myself 🤣

    Your numbers are virtually identical!
Even 20w per day is a minuscule difference, easily put down to the cycle of the freezer.

We have a fairly hi-tech house, & are rather high users of electricity, but we do manage to use around 95% at off peak rates (we average 10p/kWh, including ‘fuel’ for the electric car).  Octo-Aid is a nice app for us Octopus users…
    Plan for tomorrow, enjoy today!

    Wow - what a thread!

I have just spent every spare moment of the past month (ish) reading every page from the very beginning.

The lifestyle you have sounds lovely with minimal spends and time being the priority. The thread has been both inspirational and thought provoking......thank you for all the details you include :)

I would love to retire but without a small miracle I know it won't be anytime soon but being 15yrs away from SPA I don't see that as a major issue just yet, it would just 'be nice to have options'. ;)

Thanks for your kind words.    Glad that you've enjoyed it so far.    That's some dedication, to have read all 407 pages.   I can't remember half of what i've posted, in all that time.

Well, our annual usage for 12 months to 1/2/24 was 8456 gas and 1356 electric.

I'll have the 12 months to 1/4/24 on the laptop (I'm on my phone), but they are probably similar.

Anyone beat THOSE (on standard duel fuel, gas boiler, no solar, no EV) 😉

Unless you have solar i have no idea how your electric usage is so low. Do you have one television and a fridge and nothing else? It just seems unbelievably low. 😀

I thought our electric was quite low at 1665 units per year. So about 4.5 per day. But.....we both work full time, and I work away from home so am only there two days a week, and OH is out 12 hours per day five days a week.
So your usage is extremely low!

No, no solar.  Yes, just the one TV, that we only really watch for 4-5 hours each evening.

Currently sitting in the sunny-ish conservatory, doing crosswords (on paper!)...so no leccy (or gas) being used, beyond (non holiday) baseload.

Other than a washing machine (~4 loads per week), oven, kettle and a bit of vacuuming and ironing, we don't really have any power hungry stuff.

    Gas hob, gas DHW.

Electricity Estimated annual usage: 1,524 kWh
Gas Estimated annual usage: 5,966 kWh
(British Gas website a mess so not exact figures, but about right)

I am at home most of the day, but I mainly use efficient appliances - gas hob, air fryer, dishwasher, no tumble dryer. Two year old gas combi boiler for heating, 4 bed detached house. Single occupier, so less hot water and cooking/washing etc. No solar.
Yes I am cautious with using energy, but I do mostly use electricity freely and do have the heating on this evening, for example. I don't sit in the cold. Most people use much more, it seems.

Base load is about 40-50 watts.

    You are not even trying.

Last year electric 15,900 Gas 15,800.  But you can add on about 3,000 of solar to the electric that didn't go through the meter.

That Gas number is down more than 50% from our peak usage before prices went mad.
    I think....
