Whoever is keeping the selling fairy hostage can they please release her!!!!!!
Thanks!! No sales for days now
  • Thanks for those tips. Will have to give them a go. Managed to get some value thick brown envelopes in Tesco today, working out at 4p each. Should be OK for DVDs but not anything more fragile.

You really need more than a thick envelope for DVDs, they can be quite fragile when dropped, a jiffy is really much better. Buyers get to leave feedback on Amazon and some will mark a seller down if they feel the pachaging is inadequate, so don't risk it.

  • Hi Everyone!

I've recently started selling books on Amazon and I've already hit a problem. I sold a book on Thursday night and posted it on Friday morning. I've recieved an email from the buyer today saying she's realised the person she was buying the book for already has it and can she have her money back.

What should I do? Ask her post it back to me, then refund her? Will I be out of pocket if I do that re postage etc? What is the 'done thing' in this situation?

I would really, really appreciate some advice! I've never used a forum before so, I hope I'm doing it right... Sorry if I've put this in the wrong place or anything - I'm not very techie!

    Thanks in advance

    Hi Babs

Welcome to the forum and the Amazon Sellers Thread.

There are several ways you could deal with this and it depends on the cost of the book, whether you want to 'risk' negative feedback, etc

    1) just refund and forget about it (I would only do this if it was a book that I sold cheap and spent little on postage - especially if there were loads of other copies and the chances of selling it again were slim)
    2) ask for the buyer to send it back and explain that you will give a full refund on its return (my other usual option)
    3) ask the buyer to return it and explain that you will offer a refund for the book only (keeping the £2.75 P&P to cover postage, packing and restocking) - never personally risked this option

    (1) and (2) minimise risk of bad feedback, (3) could still see you with no feedback from the sale or the buyer changing their mind about sending it back.

The difference for me is that I operate as a business and try to protect my feedback to try to maintain 100% (mind you it's only 99% at the moment due to a couple of 'oddball buyers'.

If you do end up with bad feedback you can always leave a response to explain your side of the story.

Hope that helps. Other sellers might have other options (rarestuff??)

i would refund minus the postage if the buyer has changed their mind

i only refund in full if i have made an error
  • Thanks for that FFM & Pinkgem. It's so kind of you to help, I really do appreciate it - I was in a bit of a flap earlier!

I think I'll ask her to return the book and then refund her in full. The postage was only 60p so I'll just write it off to experience.

    Cheers again

  • With a bit of luck you may even get a positive feedback for 'good customer service' although don't be too disappointed if you never hear another word, Amazon is not like Ebay for feedback.

    Good luck with your sales.

  • Hi everyone,

I see we are all too busy selling to post on here!!

I meant to post this a few weeks ago but haven't had time.

I sold a book on Amazon that my husband had listed incorrectly, basically it was missing the CD.
I contacted another seller on Amazon called bagbooks and purchased her copy and she agreed to send it direct to my customer.
She even asked if I wanted anything put in with the book so I emailed her a copy of my compliments slip and she sent this as well.

I can't believe the brilliant service I received and thought I would let you all know that the majority of sellers are happy to help.

I've done that as well twice and both times the other seller was very obliging. I recognised his id from the sellers discussion board so was happy to use the dawg.

Another time, and for one of the books that I eventually had drop shipped by the dawg I contacted the other seller before hand and explained what I was planning to do. He/She was happy to help me but added a further £1 on her book before I could buy..thus pricing herself out of the market. Strange or what?
