  • I think lack of listing is probably my problem too really.

I sold some excellent books in January, but haven't replaced them as yet.

I have also downsized my stock considerably and removed all books (low priced) which did not have a sales rank and now I am working on removing a few others which are rather unlikely to sell.

When I have finished I will have some space for some new stock. Mark at Samtrina has said he is happy to supply just a couple of hundred, so when half-term is over I shall contact him again - I think he is rather snowed under at the moment!

I am still relatively new to this Amazon book selling, but I have managed to sell 4/5 really good IT books and so far I have made over £50 profit - very happy with this!

However having trawled through 12 pages of posts on this thread, I am still none the wiser as to where you guys source all your books from.

There are sum staggering numbers every now and then with posters saying they have 1,000 + books listed on Amazon.

I popped into a local charity shop at lunchtime to see if there were any bargains, but what do you look for?

They had dozen's of paperback books, some look brand new, but the cheapest I found was 60p and how do I know if I would be able to list it for more than 1p?

I did find one good book in a sale at another bargain book shop - The Modfather - my life with Paul Weller. I picked it up brand new for £1 and the cheapest on Amazon is about £3.30!

I keep an eye out on Freecycle whenever anyone is offering books, but until I read this thread I only looked at hard back books that sold for a lot of money - I think I need to change this tactic!

So any advise on where I can source cheap books in order to build up a decent store/listing?

I had a look on Bookfinder.com and think you probably should get excited :j

The cheapest UK sourced copy is £85 + P&P from choosebooks.

    Good luck with your listing.

    There isn't a smilie for me hyperventilating.....:rotfl:

All the UK ones I found on Google were like you say going up towards £100, however there is a copy in the US at 99$ which knocks it back a bit.

  • Hi guys !!

Had a god awful couple of weeks but things finally seem to be taking a turn for the better, glad the beeb has stopped going on about recession as people seem to be brave enough to buy books now ;)

I have a book i need to price but im unable to find it anywhere on the net,

Death of an aunt by Terry Harknett in hardback 1967 1st

the author is well known to me (ive sold some under his pen-name of george gilman for over £100) but i cant find anyone who is selling a copy of this !! tried abe, ebay, amazon, fantastic fiction , any other sites to try ?

    RCA779,

    welcome to the thread :)

I buy my stock in bulk- the last one being from priority books who are well known on the amazon discussion boards. I then top up with books from the local charity shops once in a while. My top tips are,

Dont buy well known names IE Hannibal - Thomas Harris has 700 odd copies !! Ditto with the likes of danielle steele, catherine cookson etc which are rife in the charity shops.

Pay as little as poss for as good as poss, i wont spend more than 30p per book as a rule.

Dont dismiss the older ones as you can find some real gems.

Good luck to you all !!

    Hi rca779

A lot of the time it's down to trial and error, trying to source profitable books. Most 'hobby' sellers stick to charity shops, car boots, library sales etc. I just sell my own books (but am down to the unsaleable dross now, unfortunately!)

I know some people have bought in bulk from ebay or other sellers on Amazon. The danger there is that you might end up with somebody else's unsaleable dross! :o

Just be careful selling books that you've received for free from Freecycle. Different groups have their own policy on reselling, but it's generally courteous to let the giver know that you're intending to resell the books. (People have been kicked off their local Freecycle groups for reselling things.)

Thanks for the advice guys - most appreciated.

When I got home last night I found that I had sold another of my old IT books for £17.50. Unfortunately it is another heavy book so will probably need to send via parcel post (~ £4.75). Still it's another £12 profit...lovely jubbly!!
