I've recently sold about three books on Amazon, and now am interested in selling other goods like handbags etc. I've registered for a seller account and been accepted, but it seems so complicated.
I don't know where to start, it's not easy like ebay.
I don't sell handbags with item numbers or branded names so don't know if it's possible.
    Can anybody advise please

Selling other items on amazon is not as easy as selling books/cds/dvds. Many other categories are restricted to approved sellers only, and depending what they are will make a difference as to your chances of approval, and what your previous selling experience on amazon has been, if any.

For example, if you have had an account for a good few months and have been selling a few books/cds/dvds without problem you shouldn't have to much of a problem getting approval to sell a used xbox. Though if you were wanting to go into business selling new xbox's on amazon you would quickly run into problems.

Items such as selling shoes I believe are restricted to bona-fide businesses and you would require pre-aproval, as yet I do not believe they offer a 'sell yours here' option on these, and I seriously doubt they'll permit the sale of 'used shoes'! As for handbags, this is also likely to be a restricted category, though before seriously pursuing this route your items will be required to have an 'EAN' or other type of barcoding. Also, if your items are not branded, how will you expect customers to find them, amazon customers will usually search for brand names, so it's likely that your only sales will be from customers you direct there yourself.

Hope that helps, but I'd really advise calling amazon customer services for some more specialist advice on this matter.

I sold a book on playtrade today, and after finding it I realised it had some underlining on random pages, it must have been used as a study guide or something.

What do you recommend? I plan to email the buyer and offer a discount, and stop short of offering a full refund. Has anyone else had this happen before?

  • Hi,

I've just sold and dispatched my first two items on amazon. I want to let my buyers know I have dispatched the item, is there a status I update to let them know or do I have to send them an email?

What is the best way to keep the buyer informed?

    Thanks
  • If you click on contact buyer from your orders page it brings up an email form where you can let them know when it was posted etc. It isn't compulsory but I always do it :-)

Go to 'View Your Orders' > you should see a list of orders, click on the buyer's name in the last column > that should take you to a text box, just select the appropriate term, in this instance; Shipment Notification.

Or, just send them an email....!

Not so easy now they have removed this from the Sold Dispatch Now emails.
