(extended) family hassles yesterday afternoon and evening meant my plans went astray - and even ironing for an hour didn't fully soothe my nerves!
Also meant I got to sleep waaaaay too late - and ate badly. However, that is yesterday and today is a fresh day
Car insurance due next month - my renewal is £1130 - because I have both of the students on my car. I've done a bit of price comparing this morning and so far have come out at £850 with a black box and £996 without. The students maybe drive my car for a total of <250 miles worth of driving between them, so I'm not fussed on having a black box on my car for a year (I had one before for 3 months, which was fine) The next cheapest is actually considerably more expensive than my renewal quote!! I'll do a bit more comparing later on...
Looking like a nice day here, so I have washing on the line and guinea pigs out in the garden (heavy rain the last couple of days has meant they've stayed indoors - they're getting on a bit now and don't like getting wet too much and the one has dodgy hips which are worse in the cold, so I like to keep her warm and dry as much as poss.)
More housework/ homework today but may take the smaller 2 for a walk and run about up the hill later if the weather stays nice to blow away a few cobwebsNot anticipating any spends......

Simplicity - Spending time with DS and our family
DS has been ill so lots of days with him and spent some of the weekend seeing family which was nice.
Persevere - Goals are to pay off CC, pay off Argos card and pay off Sofa this year
Paid £50 to CC but still a looooong way to go!
Reduce - Will make sure as soon as a washing load is done I take it out of machine instead of leaving it and having to wash it again. Try and put washing on the line instead of in tumble dryer. Make a meal plan to reduce our food waste and shopping list for the same. Using a shampoo bar now once liquid soap and conditioner is gone will be using bars for them too When shopping try and pick up things in no packaging or recyclable packing.
Been doing the washing but not putting it out as weather not great here but doubling up on loads for tumble dryer as it's a big one. Using a meal plan and shopping list and sticking to that. Did buy some liquid shampoo and conditioner the other day because my hair has been so flat and was having to wash every other day now not washed since Friday and still not too greasy plus big bottle.
Invest - Make sure the house stays clean and tidy and I stay clean and tidy haha put some make up on every day (if going out) and have more "me" time.
Been doing this been having a look on the flylady thread.
New - stop beating myself up about being in debt and get myself out of debt.
Trying to do this have added £700 to my debt since Jan
Grab - will have a think about this one.
NSD - 4/12
Now off to catch up with post

Except for the ones they beamed onto the Klingon ship!
I remembered this as soon as I'd posted. Respect to you for noticing - and knowing!
Dh has another episode up, so we have the ferenghi now in HD.
We were woken early today by noisy neighbours, so were out by 8am to go climb a big hill before it got too hot (forecast = 33C). We had a tail wind to help us climb it - Enchanted Rock in Texas - but it was blowing at about 50mph at the top . Dd opted to lie down every few yards so as not to be blown away.
Am grateful to be able to go and do things like climb up a bl00dy great rock!NST March lion #8; NSD ; MFW9/3/23 Whoop Whoop!!!0 -
Evening all
Simplicity - think about the simple pleasures in your life which you really appreciate, friendship, family, cake. Focus on those this month as much as you can (maybe not too much cake though). Day at home today
Persevere - I know that trying to reach your goal can sometimes seem never ending but try to remember that each time you waste money/time it can take you further away from what you really want for the long term. Got a fair way through my to-do list today
Reduce - I wouldn't be me if I wasn't asking you to reduce. Think about what you really need and what will be left at the end, is there a better way to consume. Made a lovely curry for dinner, with fridge vegetables and home grown spinachWashed out a polythene bag and hung on line to dry for reuse. Washed plant labels ready for reuse in the garden
Invest - in yourself, your family, your home - the things that really matter to you. Spent time in the garden, which is one of my favourite things. Nice walk to the post office with the dog this afternoon
New - new month, new beginning. Don't look back at past mistakes and failures, there is nothing that can be done about them, learn from them and move on. Will do.
Grab - take life by the horns. Do something which takes you outside of your comfort zone at least once this month. Will do.
NSDs: No spending today, so 5/ 15 NSDs
NO spending in coffee shops, work canteens, vending machines. If you do it needs to be planned in advance and budgeted for. Never go in coffee shops, no canteen, don't use vending machines either. But I still waste money! Nothing today.0 -
Thank you for my exemptions! I am now on NSD 5!
Today was sunny and blowy so I managed to get 3 washloads dry on the line. I get really miffed when I have to use the tumble dryer
DH had leftover beef and vegetable pie and a leaftover chicken leg for his lunch. Never was a carnivore so pleased:rotfl:!
Switched back accounts today as per :money: so feeling slightly anxious that it will all go through ok. The switching fee would be good and we should be a little better off each month
We’ve decided to get rid of DHs van as it doesn’t really get used but costs a lot in insurance, road tax and maintenance. Should save us £100 a month which is fortunate as I found out today that our car needs 3 new tyres at a cost of, wait for it, £125 each . I only put away £25 per month for car repairs so no idea where I’m going to find the money. Apparently they’re so bald they’re illegal so I don’t have any choice. It also needs new brake pads but I didn’t ask how much as I was still reeling from the price of the tyres! I shall have to revisit our budget to increase what I put aside each month from now on
I have been talking to my friend about starting a little business making and selling scented candles using ethical, safe and natural ingredients. Don’t know whether this is a ‘grab it’ as we have been friends since school and are both self-employed in the same discipline so generally agree about things. Not sure even if there is a market for it, but looking online people seem to pay inordinate amounts for very synthetic candles. Am going to do some more research. The financial outlay wouldn’t be much but it would be the time0 -
Hi all :j
Simplicity - think about the simple pleasures in your life which you really appreciate, friendship, family, cake. Focus on those this month as much as you can (maybe not too much cake though). Simple day at home.
Persevere - I know that trying to reach your goal can sometimes seem never ending but try to remember that each time you waste money/time it can take you further away from what you really want for the long term. More cutting down of stuff in the garden, it is neverending. Having said that it should never be as bad again as we won't let it get as out of hand.
Reduce - I wouldn't be me if I wasn't asking you to reduce. Think about what you really need and what will be left at the end, is there a better way to consume. No shopping today all food from stores. Resisted suggestions from DD to go to the shops.
Invest - in yourself, your family, your home - the things that really matter to you. More emails sent & some FH done. need to make a plan as things are slipping..
New - new month, new beginning. Don't look back at past mistakes and failures, there is nothing that can be done about them, learn from them and move on. Rarely look back - & when/if I do it's as if that stuff happened to someone else, which of course I was then.
Grab - take life by the horns. Do something which takes you outside of your comfort zone at least once this month. Will do.
NSDs: now 5/15
NO spending in coffee shops, work canteens, vending machines. If you do it needs to be planned in advance and budgeted for. Never go in coffee shops, no canteen, don't use vending machines either. But I still waste money! No eating out or spends.

Invest - Looking forward to spending all Friday at the library again planning and researching.
New - No regrets about the past.
Grab -Cheating on my regular group and going to a new language exchange tomorrow which will definitely be out of my comfort zone (50+ people) eek,
Cockroach watch - none
NSD - 5 yesterday

have a lovely day turtlesStudent loan £5655
House deposit €32,667K/€40k0 -
A small spend in the SM yesterday ruined my NSD, meaning I am stuck on number 5.
No plans to spend today, or tomorrow, so I should get that number up before the weekend.
JoJo - An ex-colleague of mine done that. Started as a little side thing as she was passionate about it. I think it became a relatively healthy income for her too. Go for it!!0 -

What a pain about the tyres but definitely better to be safe on the road. Do you have an emergency fund in addition to your car expenses?
Candles are very popular particularly natural ones. I buy fairly expensive ones and like the soy ones, the most important thing is the throw and that they burn evenly. I think it is a 'grab'.Debt Free and now a saver, conscious consumer, low waste lifestyler

NSD - 5. Yesterday was SFD, today definitely not!
Simplicity - spent an hour up the hill yesterday with DS2 & DS3 - they enjoyed it and we only came home because we didn't really go out in suitable footwear for trekking - I thought they'd just want teh playpark area at the bottom. They want to go again - but in walking boots :T Today DS2 and I have been attacking more of his room again and it is looking soooooo much better - and a heap of stuff left today - some for CS, 1 thing passed on to DS3 and the rest binned (lots of dried up pens and empty glue sticks) and recycled (papers) Have also arranged to see my sister and nephew next week
Perseverance - DS2's bedroom...… Also transferred small flebay sales money to hol fund.
Reduce - recycled where possible. CS also benefitting
Invest - (still) time spent sorting things out in the house/ doing homework and admin this week is well spent if it means a free & clear week next week..... This evening's tasks are ironing (yet again!) and tidying living room ready for OH coming home tomorrowI am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soulRepaid mtge early (orig 11/25) 01/09 £124616 01/11 £89873 01/13 £52546 01/15 £12133 07/15 £NILNet sales 2024: £200
