It’s hard to sit tight with no access to any funds, they obviously don’t know how it effects innocent people. Im going to ring the number on the letter, financial ombudsman wasn’t much help earlier when I rang them. They just all seem to be very lazy!
They probably do have some understanding of how it affects innocent people - however they probably spend a lot of time listening to people proclaiming innocence in order to try to sway their decisions - so harsh as it may be they have probably heard it all before many times and there is not a lot you will be able to say to garner sympathy that will change the outcome.
The financial ombudsman may be lazy - but in this case they will support the bank with the view that the bank is doing exactly what the HMRC and law of the country demands.
To be totally honest with you - I wouldnt automatically believe that someone just sold an £8K watch to a total stranger over the net in another country - even more so if it is totally out of character in your banking. It would have flagged as suspicious in several ways.
If it were me then I would have:-
1. Dug out any old photos of me wearing said watch
2. Any evidence of ownership - surely it was insured (mentioned as specific item on contents insurance)
3. Contacted original supplier if it was from new (mentioned receipt) and asked for receipt copy.
4. All forms of identification you can muster
Rock up to the bank after making an appointment and dont leave until you have the following:-
1. Confirmation that they are satisfied as to your identity
2. What else needs to be done to release funds.
3. Negotiate - fair enough to cite hardship including dependents but dont use them as a trophy.
Names, dates, times, written record of actions and discussions, if this ends in dispute in 2 months time you will wish you had made accurate records.0 -
I must have a CIFAS marker against me as I have just had a letter from HSBC who I applied for a bank account with and says they aren’t able to offer me banking facilities at this time? Are they part of Lloyd’s banking group? Could that be the reason why?0

I also tried to apply for a Barclays account also, but still waiting to hear back from them0

Have you not checked your credit report yet?0

There is nothing on my credit report I use ClearScore. I’ve been into branch this morning and the block on the account which the branch cannot take off is an ACQU block they have tried to ring the number on the letter but they are not open on Saturdays0

Credit Report will not show CIFAS marker for First Party Fraud on credit files. Only SAR to CIFAS can only confirm this.Deleted_User wrote: »You've checked one of your credit reports.
What do the other two say?0 -
How is selling a watch first party fraud? Does anyone know what an ACQU block is? The lady said it’s account opening?0
