It's all aspirational, trying to outdo the Jones', thanks to social media and reality TV.0

This is going to cost way more than £500. Flight and accom is £300? then transport to/from airport. One event is £100. then you have food and drink and paying for the bride on at least one event plus clothes and club access etc.
So £1k maybe? I'd decline now as you can't afford it.0 -

Ugh I hate foreign weddings lol someone I used to be friends with did this, she got married in Greece and "suggested" the hotel everyone should stay at - that was a rip off. Flights weren't exactly cheap, then it was a night out before the wedding in Greece, outfits, drinks, meals.... then they asked for MONEY as a wedding gift for a holiday!!!!
Needless to say I didn't go.0 -
I agree with others to suggest a couple of activities (but not a full-on 'do') and get others to pitch in with ideas too, then put together the best of them so people can do the bits they want to/can afford.
My sister organised my hen do, but I had been quite specific that I wanted to arrange things in such a way that people could come for some or all of it;
- lunch in the city centre
- escape room
- back to our hotel rooms (paid for with loyalty points so 'free') for games/to get changed
- out for tea
- went to watch a strip show
- had a cocktail or two
- back to the hotel to sleep
I had some come for lunch and the escape room only, one met us at the escape room and stayed for the rest, a couple met us for tea and the strip show. The strip show was a laugh but the escape rooms were really good if you like that kind of thing.
You could also consider cocktail making classes or even something like jewelry making or cookery courses. The place that made my wedding cake do chocolate making or cake decorating classes and often do them for hen dos. Something else I've done (just for fun, not as part of a hen do) was archery, but the place also does shooting and knife throwing for hen/stag dos. It's nice to do something different although my friendship group/family are not big drinkers!
The guys on the other hand went to Amsterdam for two nights; it cost a fair bit more per person but there were fewer of them. To be fair they'd been talking about a lads holiday for a while and I guess the stag do was just an excuse. I don't think they had as good a time as we did though so I'm hopeful that it won't turn into a game of one-up-man-ship.

I had a hen do that was £400 without activities & it was just not worth it for me because the wedding will be another £300 with dress gift & acommodation. I had to say no. I earn a decent wage but that would be both my money & annual leave gone.
Call me selfish but I didnt want to go to France for my holiday this year so I said no0 -
