  • Hello,

I don't know if you are still reading, but I just had to post because this thread touched me deeply.

I apologise for vagueness, I'm trying to keep this as anonymous/neutral as possible.

When I was younger I had family members who would regularly get threatened with physical violence from their father - who was a BIG man.
A 12-year old boy who had been brought up not to show emotion, who would normally think it was "sissy" to cry in front of girls, broke down in front of 3 of us because of the way his father spoke to him and treated him. That was only one incident I saw and it scared me half to death. I was a child myself at the time and I didn't know what to do - I never even told my own parents what had happened. I'm not sure if they were aware or not.

So - what stopped me speaking out, even anonymously, phoning childline or someone? I knew they were there and they could help. I didn't tell anyone because I was scared of breaking the family apart. I convinced myself I was over-reacting. That's what happens when children are abused by their parents - everyone's too scared to do anything in case it causes further upset. In this case I realise that I should have done something. Fortunately the kids are old enough now to fight back - it's over for them.

Please don't let this go on any longer than is necessary for your children.

Also - just a note, you say you let him live in the house so you can keep an eye on how he is with the kids - you can't watch him all the time, but they have to.

Really sorry if this upsets anybody. Feel free to have it removed if it does. I just feel so strongly about this.
I don't believe and I never did that two wrongs make a right
