Take a look at some of the unlocking guides http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=136 to see if you think you are up to it. Make sure you chose the right guide for your particular version of phone though or else you will be stuck with an expensive brick.

They were ok to unlock when you bought yours but they have updated the phone they are selling now and it can't be unlocked. So anyone going to the US. DON'T BUY ONE

The latest software version is not currently hacked for making calls on but can be to use all the other features but NOT as a phone. It wont be long till it's hacked though believe me.

I have an unlocked iphone on vodafone and it's great, really well made, easy to use and I only need to carry one thing now. The screen is excellent and the sound quality on the American one I use is excellent. It's not perfect but it's getting there.

An ipod touch might be your best bet especially if you get it from US.

I am going to the USA in the new year and my son is bugging me to bring him back an iPhone as they are apparently cheaper over there.

Will he need to do anything to it to make it work in the UK if I bring it back? Will it accept a UK network sim card?

apparently the latest ones there is no way to unlock them yet!! only the older versions,
if you bring it back might have to wait a while before there is an unlock

My lovely husband bought me an iphone for christmas thinking it would be really easy to unlock to my current orange sim card.

We are having real difficulty, I have bought unlocking information from ebay and all seems to be going fine until I try to access safari through jailbreakme

If anyone has any advice or help they can offer I would be extremely grateful. My poor husband is feeling really low about it at the moment

What firmware version is it? If its a 1.1.2 then ther is no software unlock available. You will have to get a turbosim/hypersim/stealthsim etc and cut your sim to the required shape.

If its a 1.1.1 or earlier then you should be able to software unlock this unless you have updated the firmware via itunes.
