So if i add an MP3 album to itunes then transfer it to the iphone it will play it ?

yes itunes imports the songs and they will transfer to an iphone
  • There is no evidence to support this. Of course, there will be a better iPhone at some point. But then you'll have given up using the current one for X months in the meantime. If you want to speculate, the obvious one will be a 16GB model to bring it to parity with the iPod touch. Maybe a 32GB ultra premium (read: expensive) model in the New Year though something in February when the third party applications are detailed is more likely. So that's more storage, but not really "better."

Apple has indicated a 3G model will be available in 2008 (note not "early", "mid", or "late"), but (knowing Apple very well) I think something timed for the Christmas season - meaning a late September / early October release - is most likely. *Maybe* a better camera as that would be so cheap and it really is the one thing that's glaringly deficient relative to cpmpetitor products (the other things, I would suggest, are "choices" not deficiences). If you look at iPod releases, they are refreshed roughly annually, with little bumps in capacity mid-year from time to time. Their Mac business is not too different. Why would the iPhone be any different, especially when most of the world doesn't even have it yet? They have the rest of Europe, Australia, South East Asia, Canada - the list goes on - which you have to assume will get as much if not more focus than refreshing an existing product - that's just basic economics. Things only get interesting when they think about Japan, because it will have to be either Japan-only (boring) or 3G (interesting) to work there. (As South Korea but it's a much smaller market.) Japan-only probably shouldn't be ruled out as Apple contemplated this in the US with Verizon, which doesn't use the GSM system, and it is a huge market. So, bar a likely 16GB bump, I don't think buyers are going to feel disappointed in the near future.

Summary: to paraphrase Dyson, if you want an iPhone, you have to get the iPhone.

(AJ now getting stupidly excited about queueing on Friday...!)

it was mentioned on one of the gadget shows i regularly watched, so like i said watch out for the next year and wait for the features to be improved.

Once you have put your song into itunes, right click on it and convert it to AAC.
Slightly better sound quality, then just delete the mp3 version. It will also mean you can squeeze some extra tracks on as well.
  • i tried to play an aac music file on my sony ericcson phone but it doesn't look like it supports it, it only plays on nokia phones

It is true that an aac file will give a better sound quality to that of an mp3 file of the same bitrate, however converting an mp3 to an aac will not give you any improvement in sound quality. If anything you will get a slight degradation of sound quality when you convert one compressed audio format into another.
  • I would get an Itouch 16gb for now and a decent phone on a decent contract.

I am having to hold the iPhone at 45 degree angle so I don't keep putting calls on hold or dialling someone else by accident.

We are much less tolerant than the yanks and i can see a lot of unhappy people in a few weeks tied into a long contract with not much allowance.

    Save your money?

O2's customer service has gone downhill over the past couple of years since the Telephonica takeover, they sometimes can be good, but can be awful as well. If you can wait til after Christmas for the Iphone I think you might get a better deal, as it retails for $399 at the moment in America:). A small price drop may be in order I feel:).

I think that if you want to be an early adopter then you will have to pay a premium- my advice would be to wait until early next year and see if they do drop the price or offer it contract free:).
