Treating ourselves by going out in a bit to have fish and chips at the nice place not that far away.  Last time we were there the take away was busy but we were the only people eating in.  I expect the place is heaving on a Friday night!

You cannot beat really good fish and chips @Brie. Unfortunately there aren't any good ones near us. My son says you shouldn't eat fish and chips unless you can see the sea. Maybe he is right, because the best ones are always on the coast.

Tonight we had an old favourite of roasted veg, chorizo and potatoes. With chicken meatballs.  I had roasted veg with pasta and mozzarella.
Afterwards daughter and I had leftover pancakes, blueberries, strawberries and chocolate. Delicious.

Well the place is in Poole so that's very coastal!!  And the fish selection is practically endless, not just your cod and haddock.  Plaice, skate, rock, whitebait, scallops, scampi etc.  Option of gluten free batter (cooked separately).  Goats cheese fritters (as yet untried).  And excellent, truly excellent chips, and in abundance.  And endless tea.

@Brie I'm very envious, a beautiful part of the country and sounds like a brilliant fish and chip place.

Tonight we went greek, chicken with a seasoning pack, greek chips, flat bread, Greek salad and mushrooms and halloumi.
Then I had a huge bowl of chopped fruit with greek yogurt.

  • Haha, I get that! The crowds can be a lot. I’m keeping it simple tonight with a stir fry – loads of veggies, some chicken, and a bit of soy sauce. Just trying to clear out the fridge before the week gets busy. Enjoy that Niçoise salad; sounds delicious!

I have fridge clearout soup simmering on the hob at the moment which has made a lot more space in there and I'm planning to use up the end of a baguette as croutons for tomorrow's lunch and dinner. I also tipped in the end of a packet of green lentils which was a bit past it's best before date but beyond needing a bit longer simmering I don't think there's anything wrong with them.

That soup looks delicious @goldfinches, I love those chunky veg ones (I like to add pearl barley to mine).

Tonight I am making a leek and mushroom risotto, absolutely all the ingredients were free from the community fridge and it will make at least four portions.

I made lasagne for dinner tonight. With salad.

I love pearl barley in soups. There used to be a grain, in a yellow box took about 10 mins to cook, I loved that in soup but haven't seen it for a few years. Cant remember what it was called.
The other thing I have started adding to my soup is frozen mushy peas, the ones that are whole and need a half hour boil. Just gives the soups some interest. I dont let them get to the mushy stage.
    Like these.

Dinner tonight is stir fry noodles with whatever veg is in the fridge, plus a steamed chicken breast for OH,
we quite often pick up downpriced egg noodles in Aldi and they freeze really well.
I’ll make a sauce from cupboard items
