We have agreed to have one dinner out or one really nice dinner in at least once a week rather than just doing things that can be eaten in front of the TV. I like it because we end up spending more time talking rather than just grunting over our grub.
I got some food from Community Food Shop and the prawns had to be eaten today, so made a tandoori prawn dish with mint yoghurt on naan. I'd eaten half before I remembered to take a pic!

Agree completely @Brie Its nice to be out and have time to chat. We have a bean to cup coffee machine but we do still pop out and have coffee in independent local places. I do take a sharp intake of breath as they ask for between £6 to £8 for two coffees, but it's a nice treat and it's good to support locally.
So tonight, husband had the beef stew I made last night with mash and broccoli. I bought some brie today for 20p and I had some vege bacon that needed using, so I made a bacon, brie and tomato quiche. I had it with salad. I really dont know what I'm going to do with the other 3 slices, it was nice but the brie taste was very strong, perhaps the label saying very ripe was the clue.
Lasagne tomorrow night, the leftover Ratatouille will be the tomato sauce.1 -
my turn to cook tonight and I've got some of those Taxco finest cumberland sausage swirls. Think I'll be grilling them. Then there'll be some mashed potatoes and some fried onions. nom nom nom.
better get cooking in a bit!! can't remember if i mentioned it but the other thing about going out for fish and chips the other night was the chippy closed at 8 pm. So we were there about 6:30. So finished, including our long chat and 2 pots of tea, by 7:30. Normally we aren't starting until 8 which means there's very little evening left after dinner and before bedtime. We both agreed that the earlier dinner was better. Not likely to get things done tooo quickly tonight but I'll try.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. I was in Asda on Friday and spotted the valentine's meal deal £11.97 for a starter, a main course, two sides, a dessert and a bottle. I bought prawns, the battered haddock, a cauliflower cheese, chips, panna cotta and a bottle of red wine.
There were also lots of veg reduced to 10p. Including bags of potatoes, strawberries, cauliflower, broccoli and carrots.
So Saturday, we had the haddock and chips, which also had peas in the box. It was actually very nice. Airfryer to table in 15 mins!!
Sunday I used some of the wine in a slow cooker beef stew.
I steamed the cauliflower and mixed it with the cauliflower cheese, topped with a little extra cheese and baked. Made the potatoes into roasted and mash. Served with the tenderstem broccoli.
Panna cotta and strawberries for dessert.
We are having the prawns with a salad tomorrow.
Really impressed with this offer, may have to buy another. Whole shop was less than £15 that included the milk I went in for.3 -
Good spot @JIL
Will send the OH along as I find Asda a bit tough going myself. Must be the neighbourhood - been shouted at too many times by customers who resent me stopping to read labels etc. Got pushed once too by someone who didn't like the fact that I was hanging on to my trolley while looking. This was when I was waiting for a knee replacement so it wasn't like I was holding on just to be possessive.
OH had ordered some ox cheeks from our meat guy who also had beef kidney as well - of course we bought it all. OH had intentions of a steak and kidney pie but in the end decided to simply braise the cheeks in leftover red wine (only happens now since I've stopped drinking red!). Served with carrots and duchess potatoes. The meat cut like warm butter. Lush. There was a small bit of cheek left over and about half the carrots so I made that into a soup last night served with rolls and cheese. Used up some of the frozen veg as well - bits of chopped onion, squash and potato and added so split red lentils too. OH as normal grumbled that I had made the soup differently from the previous time when it was so nice and then grumbled that I hadn't made enough. He really is a cup (soup bowl?) half empty kinda guy!!I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. Tonight I am making paella for dinner, there will be leftovers for this week for DS's lunches (half term).
I've also got produce for a big batch of leek and potato soup which I will freeze straight away but use for lunches over the next couple of weeks (I still have a batch of veg soup for tomorrow). I also have some thick bacon to use (picked up the wrong type in the shop last week and don't want it to go to waste) so will be making a creamy bacon pasta for me and DH. Not sure if this will freeze well though, thoughts?Mortgage (MFD 04/2053) (Jan 25) £238,983.71. Overpayment set to £200 per month. Current: £236,171.58

had to go to a local large market town on market day and was hoping to come home with lots of wonderous things.
We got some kippers and skate wings from our regular fish monger who is actually located near where we live so not a real achievement. The wings will be for dinner tomorrow (served with lemon butter w capers and new potatoes I think) and the kippers for Friday breakfast. So much of the meat that was on offer wasn't that spectacular and in the end we went to the local Waitrose but their meat was even worse. They did however have duck legs and Happy Hog black treacle bacon on special so we picked up some of those for some time. They also, as usual, have packs of frozen chicken livers for £1. I'm hoping that will be used in a risotto.
But the toodling about really wore out the head chef to the point I had to drag him into a shop for tea and cake. (he is a right one when his blood sugar is too low) (& the market town had absolutely no toilets available unless you went in a cafe/pub and became a customer - very irritating). So net result is that he won't be cooking tonight so I've got the priviledge of chucking the Waitrose version KFC into the oven later.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards.
