I don't know why it is acceptable for microsoft and samsung to do this, but not apple.

Of course they do, and they get shamed for it to, the difference is with Apple many people claimed over the years it was fake news


With Windows people just claim the hardware is outdated rather than actually intentional slowing down. (the actual add ons are a different story)

I think its quite ingeniously devious. Most people I know complain about their iphones battery life almost from the day they take it out of the box.

If the deterioration of the battery meant in normal operation the phone started lasting an unacceptably short time say, after 1 year, people would be much less inclined to buy another one.

By gradually throttling it down people will just blame the usual app bloat or once you get used to it what seemed fast isn't so much.

They will go in the phone shop, play on the demo new one and think wow its so wizzy, I will upgrade. Kerching.

Its a double pronged strategy and as dubious as Volkswagen's dodgy emission software in its cars that has cost it billions and seen high ranking people jailed.

Now that would bring Apple down a peg.

I was in a ferry queue a couple of days ago and quite a few people were having problems boarding on the return trip due to flat phone batteries and no hard copies of their boarding passes. They had had no means of charging their phones during the day.

I have a first generation Moto G with a non-replaceable battery that will still stay charged all day with no problem.

Has there been a similar update for the iPad Mini?

My wife tells me hers is now noticeably slower and wonders if that is the reason. Or more likely, now its five years old and needs replacing.

What compensation have they agreed to pay to someone who upgraded from a 6/6s for the reason it was slowing down- when all they really needed was the software to warn them the battery needed replacing, not slow the phone down on purpose?
