I don't misunderstand at all, I shall take a few screenshots for you when I am next at work. But anyway, the newer software did not have higher minimum requirements.

I apologise, I wrote minimum requirements but that isn't what I meant. Minimum requirements is about what it would take to run the software at all, the software is running but it's just slower.

Making any change to software (bug fixes, new features etc) can slow it down and you either live with it or buy newer hardware.

Microsoft do put out software that runs slower than the previous version, that is unavoidable. Apple put out operating system that purposefully slows down the cpu because of their poor battery performance, so even if you were running the same software then it would be slower.

I look forward to seeing exactly what microsoft say.

That fact that Apple didn't offer cheaper/easier battery replacements sooner, and offer an unlock to the throttling if the battery were replaced - that's the moneymaking scam here.

£79 isn't an awful price for a battery replacement, it doesn't feel expensive compared to the price of the phone overall to have it done reliably.

Once the battery is replaced the slowdown will stop, their announcement says it only slows down to avoid crashes when the battery can't handle the demand. Get a battery that can handle the demand and it doesn't need to slow down.

According to The Verge, customers who paid full price are eligible for a refund of the price difference: https://www.theverge.com/2018/1/2/16840400/apple-iphone-battery-replacement-genius-bar-diagnostic

Though the article talks of the price in dollars, so whether they do so in the UK may not be firmly established yet.

I’ve had my phone for 3 1/2 years. Noticed a drop in performance immediately after the iOS 11 update. However I’ve had good value from my phone so a battery replacement is more than welcome.

The Mrs is booked in for an iPhone battery swap this week at the Apple Store and was verbally promised it'll be £25.

Has Apple actually stated that it does or does not slow down older phones like the 4 and 5?
Why are they limiting the cheap battery replacement to the 6 and above?

Does this also apply to iPads and their laptops?

Probably because the phones are years old.
The 4 is coming up for 8 years old!

It's limited to the 6 and older. As an iphone 7 should still retain 80%+ of its original charge capacity, but an iphone 5 or 6 is going to need a new battery, so they are offering them at a lower price.

Looks like the Harvard theory in 2014 was spot on, comparing releases of new Apple phones/software with google searches of 'iphone slow'!!! Pretty shocking..
