MSE News: Apple to cut cost of replacing iPhone batteries

What a lot of nonsense, my less than 12 months old iphone 5s was perfectly OK until Apple deliberately crippled it with an IOS 11 update. The £25 battery replacement is just a cover up because they don't want to admit they deliberately crippled older phones. The only way older iphone owners will get a satisfactory solution will be as a result of the US class action lawsuits. I do not need the latest gwhizz iphone offering and the deliberate crippling of my phone I believe is unlawful.0

Probably because the phones are years old.
The 4 is coming up for 8 years old!
But the 5s should be included as it was still for sale less than 2 years ago and would be ripe for a battery upgrade.0 -
The 5S should be included as it can run IOS11
All older phones can't0 -
But looking at the picture I posted above it is clear that Apple throttled that phone as well, but perhaps because most are probably no longer with the original owners they can skip it.

So you are saying an 8 year old phone likely has a tired battery?0 -
where are all the 'Apple just works' and 'Apples legendary customer service' people?0

Just seems like Apple are trying to steer the reaction to 'aren't Apple great to charge only £25 for a battery change', when it should be about them being deceitful to customers. After all this has only come about because they have been outed, its not a voluntary admission. Seems pretty clear to me that for the last 10 years at least, they have been introducing software to degrade the performance of the previous phone with older batteries and getting people to buy new ones. Does there need to be some sort of government investigation in to their actions?0 -
So I just arranged a replacement online for a 6 (plan to give it to the kids, so a battery replacement should give it a new lease of life) for £25 plus the (expected) £7ish P&P [they ship you a box, you ship it to them, they ship it back to you].
BUT .. I also did the same for a 5S I have. And that was the same price, which was a pleasant surprise.0 -

Still here.
There is no point getting into a discussion about it. Simply put if someone is upset what Apple did then seek legal advice and going forward make the decision to switch to another phone manufacturer. As for the others who don’t like what Apple stand for then that’s to be respected and no discussion is required.
Personally I still love my Apple gear and get much pleasure out of it.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
