These are 2 year old+ phones we are talking about.

I think the large discount is a sensible compromise, to stop everyone queing up for the sake of it.

I wasn't necessarily recommending it, it was just to show that a phone made from scratch with a bit of innovation was half the price of the iphone X. With what Apple charge they should be giving away a free battery replacement service with every phone, after all its their choice to not make it very easily replaceable.

There is very little innovation in the Essential phone, it uses mostly components readily available and is built to similar standards of most Android phones and has very little after sales service.

Unless I’ve missed the news where Essential have rolled out an international network of Essential Stores in many large cities across the globe and have a policy whereby you can visit any of these Essential Store locations and get a repair or replacement in under an hour for faulty handsets?

If they haven’t, it’s pretty much an apple vs orange comparison...

As I said, I'm not saying buy it. It was to show a bit of innovation doesn't need to cost $1000. As far as parts go, the same can said for Apple. As for getting it fixed, perhaps at £1000 I would hope it wouldn't break.

Just had a chat with apple.
    I don't think I believe it.

    Philip
Thanks for contacting Apple Support. My name is Philip. Please give me a moment to look over your information.

    Philip
Before we proceed, is the email address provided in the pre-chat information is the email address that you’re using?

    Me
If it is a gmail address yes

    Philip
Thanks for confirming. How are you doing, Pete?

    Me
I'm good thank you, hope you are too

    Philip
That’s good to hear! I’m doing great. Thanks for asking.

    Philip
How can I help you today?

    Me
Well it's about my battery :)

    Philip
Can you tell me more about your phone battery, Pete?

    Me
Hi. Could you confirm how much battery replacement is on an iPhone 5S please, if I take it into my local apple approved retailer. <br/>I recall on 5 January it was quoted at £25

    Me
The battery does not last as long as it used to.

    Philip
Thanks for giving us a chat about your query with the phone battery replacement price of your phone. I’d be more than happy to assist.

    Philip
May I know what country are you located, Pete?

    Me
    UK England

    Philip
Thanks. Here’s the iPhone service pricing in UK: https://support.apple.com/en-gb/iphone/repair/service/pricing

    Philip
    It should be £ 79. The £ 25 discount is eligible for iPhone SE, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus,iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus,iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus,iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X.

    Philip
I’m afraid iPhone 5s is not included.

    Me
That is disapointing as it is recommended to run IOS11 on the iPhone 5S ?

    Philip
Yes, the phone supports iOS 11. However, the battery issue doesn’t affect iPhone 5s but mainly devices running iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 7, and iPhone 7 Plus.

    Me
So if I upgrade to IOS11, my battery performance will not get worse?

    Philip
It won’t. In fact, it will improve your phone performance even better. Are you currently running iOS 10.3.3?

    Me
    yes IOS10

    Philip
Thanks. I strongly suggest you update the phone to the latest iOS 11.2.5. The latest iOS software has major fix with the battery consumption issue and bugs fixes. Updating the software will have the phone at it’s full potential with the apps and software capability.

We haven’t heard from you in a while. To keep your chat session active, please respond to your Apple Advisor and let us know you are still there.

    Me
Ok thank you for your time. I will consider this, although I note it will be some months before a version will be available to turn

    Me
off slow down for battery performance

    Me
Thank you for your time today, have a nice day.

    Philip
Indeed. But for the latest iOS version is iOS 11.2.5. I have my iPhone 5s updated couple of days ago and so far it’s working in good condition.

    Me
Thank you for your help. Good bye.

Have you tried following the steps online to get the battery replaced and opting to send it to them?
As I mentioned earlier on the post, they did that for me for £25 + £7p&p. You can do that without chatting to anyone.

I ended up with a replacement 5S. For whatever reason they sent a new handset instead of swapping the battery. They replaced the battery on my 6.
