I wonder how many worshipping at the Apple church are impressed by their updates ?

Microsoft have done the same with Windows since at least Windows XP. The only difference is there's a setting to change it manually even if most people don't know it exists.I was shocked when I discovered that owners cannot easily change the batteries in their iPhone. I understand Samsung have now gone down the same route. They are both off my list of potential suppliers.
It's not difficult to change an iPhone battery. Remove two screws, slide the back off, undo the connector clip. Replace the battery and reverse the process to put back together, hardly requires an engineer.
The problem is (as I've seen too many times) many people will just buy the cheapest battery available on eBay or Amazon then when something goes 'pop' or bursts into flames they're on social media posting pictures of their charred [insert stupid place to keep an electronic device] complaining that it's somehow Samsungs fault.0 -
You miss the point. modern batteries have far greater run times and far shorter charging cycles.
My Nexus was 30% in 10 minutes IIRC. No need for overnight charging etc. I charge my phone in the car on my commute.
The manual says that a full charge on this can fully recharge an iPhone 6 approximately 9 times.
It also has 3 USB charging ports so you can hook up to 3 devices to it at once.
The charger plug has 2 sockets, and I can let it do a full powerbank recharge overnight.0 -
Microsoft do this with windows updates, despite no battery. Samsung do this with their mobile phone updates, even on older models where the battery slot opens.
I don't know why it is acceptable for microsoft and samsung to do this, but not apple.0 -
Thanks. Didn't realise that was your point. I'm often out and about without any means of recharging my phone.
Those are the occasions when I carry a spare battery.

How do you know they do it?0 -
Will have to agree to disagree then.
Seriously you can't believe they would issue such a statement & reduce the cost of battery replacement if their reputation hadn't been damaged.
This is an attempt to restore trust (their words).0 -
Many have. If the battery lasts well at 2 years then whats the issue?
My Nexus 6p was still giving great battery life at near 2 years when I sold it.
Apple are bent for trying that underhand trick .They put me off the company for life.
when I go away for days on end camping wild mostly, I like to take spare batteries. Its important for my safety. If I cant buy and fit quickly a spare battery then they can get stuffed.0 -

What special kit? All you need is a small phillips screwdriver.0 -
They confirm it during the trouble shooting process when you go through the options that apply to the product becoming slow to carry out certain processes.
Its the first time they have come clean and admitted their subterfuge. Other times they slid their way out with excuses ( said Radio 5 live today )0 -

It was a deliberate move to get people to junk the phone and buy the latest number.
An American first spotted it and made a lot of money selling the new screwdrivers/batteries to defeat it.Not sure exactly which Iphone it was,4 or 50
