How do you know? All we know is that diets only work for a few (a small %) of the people who have responded to surveys. There must be lots of people like me who are too busy or not interested in responding to diet surveys--the diet/eating plan/whatever works and their interest in it all ends there.
I'm only responding here because I'm having a quiet weekend as I was ill recently and need to be well for work, but I still wouldn't be interested in replying to a diet survey.
Fair enough.
They make billions because people (including me when I did IE) are basically stupid and don't understand that doing the same thing over and over will get the same result, over and over. People don't often understand thet they need to actually change something to get a different result.
I can't bold, but You are blaming the dieters not the companies. Again, the TED talk I posted shows why dieting 'success' is not about anything we can control. Regardless of your experience with IE, it is the most natural way to eat. It is how we were designed to eat. Without actually questioning you in depth about your doing IE, it's hard to understand why you gained so much. Most people will gain a little at the beginning but not very often as much as you.0 -
I think you take whatever seems to suit your viewpoint (that Slimming World is inherently flawed) - be it some study or Facebook page - and regurgitate it
I think you believe Slimming World messed with your head (maybe it did, and maybe it was because of your possible obsessive tendencies) and you find it impossible to accept that other people had a different experience.
Why do you keep coming out with the same thing?
You asked me to provide evidence re figures, I did.
You kept going on about how it was my fault SW messed with my head, so I posted a link to 2 FB posts where other people (that I do not know) shared their stories to confirm that the same had happened to other people.
I have agreed that SW (and diets in general) will work for a small amount of people.
Yet you accuse me of regurgitating stuff. I have 'backed up' pretty much everything I have said, but that is still not enough for you.
Yet, you haven't provided me with ANYTHING apart from anecdote (which is no different from me posting the FB links) to counteract anything I have said.
You also keep bringing up my OCD. My OCD has nothing to with dieting. And in fact is probably something that stood me in better stead for planning when I was dieting.
Edited to say: I had access to all of this information prior to commencing this debate, so I haven't just picked and chosen it to suit me.0 -
Again, they're only as good as the people they include in the studies. I'm sure many people do various eating plans without 'official' support and would not be included in any of those studies.
All the people for example who go to SW/WW etc, collect the starting info and then do the diet alone, to avoid paying the weekly fees/going to regular classes. How do you think they are included in any studies?
They aren't. But whether they're recorded or not, doesn't change the findings of the studies and the success rates. It's like saying that the way to lose weight long term is not to tell anyone.
And many different, controlled studies have produced the same results.0 -
One thing I found bizarre about Slimming world is that it has its own ready meals. They lose all credibility by doing that surely?
But I know girls at work who are doing it and going to the meetings and they have lost weight. Also people who have done "weight watchers" and they have lost weight. They all yo-yo though.
My thing in the end was just to cut out as much processed food as I could cope with; chocolate, fizzy drinks, crisps, biscuits, cereals, readymeals, no sugar & milk in coffees/teas. I've gone 16.6 to 15.8 in 3 or 4 weeks so far with no added exercise so just shows how much weight the !!!!! was putting on.
What diet do you call that?0 -

And completely ignoring the reason I posted the links. The stories that other people have shared about how it made them and what it did to them. Obviously none of that matters eh?
And looking at the comment by the person who put 'inmates', it clearly shows ahe was mad at the company for messing with the heads of its members.
So you think it's ok for people on the FB posts to comment about SW but you don't like anyone on this thread sticking up for SW ? Ah, correction, you say that there are a "minority" of people who successfully follow SW and lose weight. Cover your back there.
I've read those posts on FB and take in what people are saying but to be honest, they all seem to have the same opinion as you, that their way is best and anyone who follows SW is doomed for ever as far as their weight control goes. Can you not see how ridiculous this sounds ?
As for SW "messing with the heads of it's members" i have never heard such a load of tosh.0 -

I have ALWAYS said it (and diets in general) 'work' for a minority. Which you will see if you read my posts. I never said I didn't like anyone sticking up for SW. I am arguing that its diet doesn't work.
And you seem to be misinterpreting or deliberately misreading the posts because they are all saying they had the same experience of SW as I did, which was the only reason for me posting a lonk to it. Because no one on here believed that could be the case. I provide evidence that confirms what I am saying and still get knocked for it!! Conversely, do you have any idea how ridiculous you sound for thinking I am the only person with that experience.
So, telling people a product is 'free', then telling them it's not, even though it hasn't changed is not messing with their heads? Or the Porky Lights situation that was similar? Because it meant members weren't buying SW branded sausages? Or then when they were going to sue the small business greengrocer who offered a discount on fruit and veg to people who did SW. Yep, totally the actions of a reputable company.0 -

I'm out. You are completely blinkered.0 -

My comments referring to 'obsessive' come from this statement by you:Anoneemoose wrote: »Many will believe in SW. I did once upon a time too, so I understand why it seems attractive. And it worked for me, many times. Until I became obsessed with syns and thinking if I happened to eat a wholesome full fat yogurt with nuts and honey that I would be 'bad' because it wasn't a processed mullerlight that was 'free'.Anoneemoose wrote: »I have ALWAYS said it (and diets in general) 'work' for a minority. Bottom line though Anoneemous Are you overweight?
if you are then you are just hiding behind the system that says it's ok to be overweight and not using it to its full potential0
