When I was living out in southern India, I would bath/shower the indian way i.e. bucket of water (either cold from the well or warmed by the sun from the storage tank on the roof) and a jug, pour water all over, soup up, wash hair, rinse off, conditioner, rinse off and bobs your uncle. Mind you, using a bucket and jug to rinse yourself off after using the loo takes some getting use to!;)

I visit my friend in Tamil Nadu southern India each year. I adore bathing in the river and the sea and under the waterfalls as well as the irrigation tank on the farm.
Asked if I bathed under a waterfall in England... I said "Only once, that was an accident and it was **** freezing".
Really coldwater doesn't exist in rural India... unless it comes from a fridge!

and then Hubby would pop in after us for a quick wash down too. We can't be the only family that does this, surely? People are always going on about how romantic it is to bathe together after all. ;)

i do this all the time with our baths. I would always go in first (of course) and then OH will go in afterwards. sometimes, he'd take an age to go tho' as he's always in the middle of something which usually gets to me as i know that the water would get too cold. when OH comes over from London (uni there) then she'd get in after me.. (pls, don't balk at this as i only dip n' out within 3mins) and then OH goes in last..

we used to have showers but the shower hose broke and we can't afford to get it fixed. sometimes tho' baths are just so relaxing, don't you agree?

valk-scotmanaged to get a solar camping shower some yrs ago, but we've still not tried it out. have you or anyone with experience of one of these?

one good tip that i've been using from here that is really helpful is the LIDL w/end offers. their meat is usually half-price (and a whole list of other foods), so you need to check that out. last time i bought 6 boxes of cous-cous at 49p each!

Is there such a thing? or could we start one for the newbies like me please?

I keep seeing little gems like putting soda in the washing machine/swede in the microwave/something about 10p soap maybe from Sainsburys? but because these tips have been used for years by some of you i can't find out how to utilise them

So, is there or could there be a thread please that has allsorts of top tips in one place?

This one has loads! I have to say though that the only way I have found I can re-find tips is to keep a word document and add ones that are relevant to me as I see them. That way I can pick out the stuff that I personally didn't already know etc and bypass stuff about pets (haven't got any!) or other stuff which would clutter my list and make it harder to find what I need

Do you have problems buttering your bread, does it tear?

I found this tip recently thinking it was a load of rubbish until I tried it, I was amazed that it really does work.

Instead of using a knife, use the back of a spoon.

I know, it sounds daft but give it a try.

I use a small spoon and it does not seem to tear the bread (especially homemade) as a knife seems to.

    ;)

That sounds slightly crazy, but I'll try it!
