quite common in some countries on the continent I understand. The sister of my Greek ex was staying with us once, and all I could hear was the shower pump going on & off. Might have saved water, but didn't do the poor old pump much good !"Science is a wonderful thing if one does not have to earn one's living at it" Einstein 19510

I do this - have done for ages. What's more, I bought a special white washing up bowl to keep in the bathroom, and I put it in the bath and stand in it, so catch most of the water, which I then use for the next loo flush.Keeping two cats and myself on a small budget, and enjoying life while we're at it!0

Brrrrrrrrrr - there's no way I could do this! (Shiver getting out the shower as it is!)
You're brave....... mind you, I don't pay for water so no idea how much this would save?
Even so, don't think I could do it!Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

Isn't that called a Navy shower? Good in the summer, perhaps, lol. It should save enough energy to get a free shower out of 9 or 10 I think, but I might stand corrected.Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0

I have a wet room and the drain pump doesn't always work as quickly as it should; I worry about the puddle of water creeping into my hallway, so I switch the water off to lather up and then switch it back on to rinse (I switch the water off, the drain pump keeps working)
never thought of the savings in hot water/gas so that's a bonus... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

Tried this but my electric powered shower takes almost a minute to come back to heat, not that much of a masochist, try the Australian thing of a 4 minute shower instead

4 minute showers are government endorsed in Australia - due to the massive drought they have. In the face of this I reverted to turning the damn thing off and on and (stopping the eggtimer - yes some of the showers I used had their very own timer) so I could actually do everything I needed to!!0

there's saving money and there's being extreme. Next people will be drinking cold tea made from their own wee; you'll save more water and electricity0

I've got a combi boiler and if I did that I'd get a cold surge every time I turned the water back on. I'm not convinced that getting the water back up to temperature three times is any cheaper than just letting it run, and it would be more wasteful of water too standing there waiting for it to heat up again before getting back under.Val.0
