I've just been reading on another site about someone using rags instead of toilet paper. just for after a "tinkle" not for no2's. then they wash the rags in the weekly wash. Also about someone who shops only twice a year. buys toothpaste and groceries in blk. grows a lot of stuff and freezes and cans it. saves impulse buying .

Fairy face dont worry about the comments re the toilet paper. I bet those people who are being critical have never done anything wrong, lol. Iv been naughty in the past but heaven forbid I tell all on here.
My tips are wash the baby wipes and add a drop of pure orange oil then in winter place them on the radiators and you will get a nice aroma. Cut down childrens pjs trousers when they grow out of them. You will have given them a new lease of life and a longer wear time. Cloth nappies make them into trainer pants for your toddler. You can also make them into pe bags.
I use newspaper for the bottom of my birds cage, on the kitchen floor where the cats come in and out of the cat flap. Tin foil I screw up and use to clean the animal dishes after Iv used it for wrapping food.

Reading through some of the tips its great to see how we are all tightening our belts even more. When I was in MrT's yesterday I was talking to one of the shelf stackers and she said she had never known it so quiet in the store .My local one was refurbed about 6 months ago and its enormous,Tescos also bought another piece of land to the side of it and as yet they haven't developed it as I think they realise that they have come to the point where shoppers are being a lot cannier than they used to be.Its rare even on a Saturday that you have to wait very long at the tills, and folk are making their shopping last a bit longer now than they used to.
I only go about every ten days if I can and if I need milk, or just one or two items I only take enough cash to cover it That way I know I can't overspend.I have returned to using 'cash only' and regulate virtually everything I buy on a 'do I need it? ,can I do without it? ,can I adapt something I have already got instead' basis and have cut back an awful lot on what I used to spend on shopping.

I've read about T*scos being particularly prone to "land banking" - ie buying a piece of land they cant currently use - but they've "banked" some spare cash by buying up some land.

Apparently its a leetle trick that developers (please excuse the swear word:cool::rotfl:) have been doing for some months now in anticipation of the Government allowing any/all "sustainable (huh! big fat huh!) development they want on our Green Belt/countryside etc.:(:(:eek:. The one "plus side" to "ohmegawd - I think the sh*t is about to hit the fan BIGTIME" situation is the wotnames will be left with "egg on their faces" because they wont be able to develop it...it wont be worth their while....

add lentils to meat casseroles and use in their own right as a protein source.

Get a thermos mug and make your own nice coffee to put in it, rather than paying £2+ for vaguely-coffee-flavoured-hot water at a takeout place.

I really need to get myself one of these. You know those little plastic cups they have at kids parties? The machines at work now charge 35p for one of those filled with coffee, I need at least 4 before my day even starts! And even for one of those with plain hot water it's 15p!

:eek: It's not even usually drinkable. As for charging 15p for hot water. Scandalous!

I know, it's purely for the caffeine that I drink it! When I am back on my feet I am hunting a thermos or travel mug down in Wilko's.
  • You don't need to be back on your feet: one of those travel-mugs costs a pound in Wilkos or Asd@
  • Can't remember if I posted this already - forgive me if its a repeat.

Buy humous when it's whoopsied, freeze it immediately and defrost as needed. Just give it a good stir round, no change in taste or texture.

Very handy for me with 2 veggetarian DD's.
No buying unnecessary toiletries 2014. Epiphany on 4/4/14 - went into shop to buy 2 items, walked out with 17!

Exactly, you could buy nice ground coffee and take a flask every day for less than you're paying now. It's just the getting organised in the morning to brew it and take it with you.
Public appearances now involve clothing. Sorry, it's part of my bail conditions.
