Credit Card Reclaiming Discussion

Hi guys
Just after some quick advice. I would like to look at reclaiming my credit card charges, and have a couple of questions:
1) Can I only reclaim missed payment charges, or can I claim the payment protection back as well? In all cases I added payment protection without fully understanding what it was, and all the 'get out clauses' they had. If I claimed for both, would it make the missed payment charges less likely to be refunded if the payment protection claim was unsuccessful?
2) What number do I call at Halifax to request my 6 years list of charges? I can only find the address on here, and would like to try calling them first, just in case they'll send the info without the charge. (Sorry if I'm missing it somewhere!)
3) Is there a way I can get a list of all the credit and store cards I have had in the past 6 years, i.e. from 1 central source? In my late teens I had a few open, and didn't manage them too well, but to be honest can't remember what I had where, so not sure where to start with those accounts!
4) I am looking at claiming my Halifax charges, as these will be the bulk on a credit card and the account was closed a few months ago so no risk. However, I would also like to look at claiming from Capital One, MBNA and Citibank, which are all live accounts - does anyone have any experience of their accounts with these institutions being closed after claiming back charges?
Thanks so much in advance for your help. I am trying to read as much as possible and search for answers, so these are the only questions I have left.

Hi there
In regards of PPI reclaiming there is a thread here for this purpose:
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.html?f=169
On the link added above you will also find a SAR (Subject access request) thread which is a template letter for the company to send you all the information they have on you going back as far as 6 years, including statements etc, they have 40 days to comply and there is a £10 cheque or postal order payment for this, post by recorded delivery.
However when you come across the SAR thread there are also details of this within.
There is also reclaiming PPI help and info as well on the thread, good luck, and myself and others will try to help you through this part of the reclaiming (PPI).;)The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -

If you get hold of a copy of your credit file from experian/equifax it will have on there all your past accounts for the last six years and there will be addresses on there too for you to contact the companies.
Hope this helps.0 -
Hi, thanks for the speedy replies!
One last question (well, for now) - I am reading through the PPI stuff right now, but one thing just pops into mind - if you say you were missold it, for example they said on the phone you had to take it out as part of your credit card agreement, etc, how do you prove this?? Can't they just say "We didn't say that"?!
Hopefully I'm missing something obvious... ;-)Debt at 'ephiphany': £13,500 (March 1st)

good day all...
Been a while since i posted on this topic as i have been through the reclaiming process and have been refunded nearly 2K worth of funds.
However i am still doing battle with Time Retail Finance / Aktiv Kapital.
Are credit card companies required by law to hold a certain amount of statement data before deleteing it ?
and does it matter if the account is open or closed ?
I.e. I am chasing Time Retail finance via the ombudsman for statements..And got a reply yesterday that they no longer hold data on the account due to its age.. It was transferred to the debt collector in 2005..
I thought 6 Years was a requirement ? Anybody help
Many thanks

If I start the process against the credit card will they try and close it down. Have a bad credit rating and wouldn't be able to get another one.....0

just a quick question in regard to cc charges.
if the charges are £12 does this mean there is no case to claim them back, ie are these deemed fair and there is no argument.
thanks in advance0 -

This is basically the same question that I have.
I have read martins article in the sticky thread- Charges from before June 2006. Credit card charges from before this date will usually have cost between £30 and £35. With these, you can ask for either the full amount of each charge to be refunded or the difference between the actual charge and the OFT recommended fee of £12; for example, a charge of £35 minus £12 would give a refund of £23.
- Charges after June 2006. For any charges on or after June 2006, you were probably hit for £12 each time. As this is already set to the OFT recommended amount, you simply need to ask for the full £12 amount to be refunded.
I would appreciate any help0
