Shame about those bullies, FVD, I don't suppose they were EVER new themselves or had to learn anything from scratch.
Only a few little bits of money-saving today but haven't been spendy either, just a cake to share & an ice-cream each, really.
*Low-spend day out locally. Took flask of coffee & picnic with us which we ate in abbey ruins in beautiful sunshine.
*Watered greenhouse veg.
*Purchased holiday insurance. Have never bothered with this before, as we don't go abroad or do anything outrageous. However, with my Dad's health being so poor & not likely to improve much, we thought we had better think of worse case scenarios. Holiday cottage rental about £450 so not the same as an expensive foreign jaunt, but if we were unable to go because the worst happened, then that is a lot of money to us. So hoping for all our sakes (esp Dad) that we won't need to use it.
*Synchronised our diaries. mr f said that if I drop him at the station early tomorrow, I can have the wheels, so have made a list of all the jobs I can usefully do while I'm mobile.
*Did meal plans for next weekend when we have guests. Kept it real......as in, everyone will be well-fed (like Nigella, I am never knowingly under-catered!) but we have no intention of buying more than we need. i.e Plans to roast 2 chickens to make sure there is plenty changed into roasting just one, but making stuffing & adding more homegrown veg, etc. Also saved on making a dessert because one of our guests has a birthday that day, so I will bake a (hopefully) fabby birthday cake & we can all have that for dessert. Little tweaks here & there have worked really well & I think they will love what food we've got planned.....I've even meal-planned the different sandwich fillings for our picnic (money saving in itself as the alternative will be 6 people eating lunch in the cafe).
*Planning a lovely hot bubble bath tonight.......hopefully 2 baths for one lot of hot water as am encouraged by energy account being in credit for winter.
*Set washing machine for an overnight wash on cheap tariff.
*Eating last night's leftovers for dinner........lots of lovely stew left, so will have with mash & veg.
That's it for me. Woke up at 5am stressing, so feeling a bit tired but 11.5k steps out in the fresh air has done me good.

Sorry to hear that FVD
And ((hugs)) Foxgloves, sorry to hear about your Dad's declining health - been there
It has been quite a nice day here, a bit chilly first thing, then warm and sunny, then it got overcast and very close this afternoon, but we seem to have avoided a thunderstorm. My day looks like this:
Dog walk early
Car booting - got a few bargains off my 'wants' list (a small metal teapot requested by OH for the camper van, 2 small plastic pet dishes also for the camper van, a nice king size bed set, a top for me) plus a few things to sell on. Invested in an ice cream when we had finished, to cool us down
Finished off some ends of bread for lunchtime sandwiches
Cleaned kitchen and conservatory floors as they were yucky
Load of washing, dried outside on line
Loaf in the BM
OH cooked one of his famous 'hog roasts' as DD, her OH and little GD came for dinner. Served the meat in burger buns with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling, with HM coleslaw on the sidePlenty left for us for tomorrow's dinner, too.
Cleared up kitchen again afterwards
Picked raspberries, a few French beans, a couple of courgettes, a big bowl of tomatoes and some rhubarb. Pulled the last of the spring onions from a big pot, and resowed with salad leaves
Watered everything in the back garden
Collapsed in a heap now!0 -
Hi everyone,
It's been a really manic week at work this week and I'm in for the same again next week. I'm in the process of moving my service to a new building in the middle of town and have already been tempted by a nice independent coffee shop just around the corner. Will take some nice coffee and a cafetière with me tomorrow!
It's Mr Pea's birthday next week and Amazon have failed to deliver some bits I ordered for him on 2nd August so have requested a refund. Hope the money hits my account before the day so I can get him something else!
I had a text from O2 yesterday to say my I hadn't paid my bill! It's my own fault; after I switched bank account I ended up with two O2 direct debits and I cancelled the wrong one. I paid over the phone with my debit card (two days late) and have set up another direct debit. I'm worried it's going to show as a late payment on my credit file
Mr Pea has paid some extra money into the mortgage deposit pot this month, bringing it up to £6000. We've saved an extra £1000 over the last couple of months by selling stuff, saving extra bits of income etc. It's a good feeling!
Aldi shop yesterday should see us through the week. NSD today. Ooh and I vanquished ironing mountain today!! It took me nearly two hours.
Will try and start posting earlier in the week/ thread again!02 0% £719.20 £579.34

Sounds very sensible Foxgloves, did you do the Meerkat movie thing... We booked our travel insurance on their site and got the buy one get one free for a year app... That was before we realised we had booked it for one day too few... Might top it up for an extra day and give daughters phone number so they can make use of it...im fairly sure it will be cheaper to do an extra day separately than try to get insurance company to edit the policy...
Went out to get extra euros, got best price but still rubbish, didn't want to risk the rates dropping anymore.
Just rounded down bank account, extra 49p in savings, nearly £2.50 in now, sounds fairly rubbish but it really is just pennies a couple of times a week..0 -
