Everything is frozen this morning. Definitely got my thermals on. Had a walk with the dog and the local pond is frozen. Puppy dog enjoyed rolling on the frosty grass 😆

I will be online shopping today for gifts for family. Either click and collect or amozon. No point in relying on Royal Mail

Another week gone and still no news about exchanging/ completing. The sellers were supposed to be in a hurry to sell but their solicitor has not replied to enquiries from mine. The EA says the gas cert was done 22 Nov so why have their solicitor still not provided a copy. I’m beginning to think that we will not be completing until the new year. I have chased the EA but still no progress. Feel very low and fed up today 😢

Just about to get up and walk the dog. It’s still dark here. I’m going to finally make the sweet potato soup in the slow cooker today and get the xmas decs out of the loft. Hopefully a NSD.

Now MSE says I don’t have permission to post! Will copy & paste see if it works …. MSE logged out so had to log back in

Having lots of problems with MSE it won’t keep me signed in.

Dark & grey today. Just getting up to walk the dog. Sad news over the weekend that a friend in the village I am moving to has passed away 😢

We have had the heating on all day in 15 minute bursts every hour it has been so cold.

Today I am expecting a delivery from amaxon. Last few presents to buy this week.

Using the heating like that can actually work out more expensive. The boiler has to go on full pelt to warm up the radiators. I have mine simply on all the time but programmed using the thermostat. In this cold weather from about 0600 to 2200 it is programmed to be at 20 degrees. To be honest the radiators are off a lot of the time because once the house is warm to 20 it stays there quite a while.. The thermostat is set to 15degrees. from 2200 to 0600 to ensure the radiators stay off during the night. I simply will not compromise on not being cold!. To be honest with the current help from government and older relative's cold weather payment we are managing fine. I have adjusted the smart meter budget to our new monthly cost of a maximum of 230 a month and it is easily staying within . That is for a 4 bedroom house with 3 reception rooms, conservatory (which also has a radiator) kitchen and two bathrooms.

The boiler in this house is over 25 years old and has no thermostat. The rads each have a TRV. The heating comes on for 15 mins at 9am then every hour for 15min until 9pm which is enough to keep the house warm enough when we are home. If we are all at work it is turned off.

DS and gf were aware that they would have to replace the boiler when they bought the house and may decide to have a central thermostat added, but at the moment this is what works for us. We have been staying within the dd £124 plus gov grant £66 and have built up over £400 credit. Once this freezing cold spell passes it will be on less.

Hope MSE sort this glitch out soon.

Will be getting up shortly to walk the dog. She was fed earlier but I couldn’t get back to sleep. I have been looking at where to invest my equity once new house purchase has completed. I think I will put away £50k in long term account / bonds and put £50k into an instant access account. I will be living on approx £10k a year once wages stop. I will look for a pt job once I’m settled in. Just hope we exchange soon.

Today I will be waiting in for a parcel from amaxon. Then I am going to the card shop for a sympathy card. There is no funeral service as my friend opted for a direct cremation. I am sad that I didn’t get to move nearer to her before she passed away 😥

That’s quite a lot to put into an into an instant access account. Personally I would put 20000 into an instant access initially, 20000 into Premium Bonds (You can always cash them in and may win a prize) and say 10000 in a low risk S&S ISA. Lots of variations available. Another idea would be to put various amounts into savings bonds that mature at different times. I have to stress this is just my view and definitely not advice. However, having said that some instant access accounts have fairly decent interest rates at the moment.

Personally I could not live on 10000 a year. I did a quick tally just now and would need at least 20000 a year if I was on my own. This includes everything. ( bills, food, petrol, council tax, spending money, clothes, birthdays, Christmas, car costs, insurances, house maintenance and a holiday or short breaks).

The good news is a part-time job could bring you another 10000 a year that would make life more comfortable. You are also a few years younger than myself.

Great respect to you if you can live on 10000 a year. However I could not meet my bills on that amount let alone food and actually having a life.

Best wishes. Hopefully you will complete soon.
