Good idea - wet paint vs carpet fluff/dog hair.... :)

Yes, I have had the 'striped dog' effect in the past, when the dog leaned on the paint, left his fur on the skirting, and struggled to get the gloss off him, so the neighbours were in stitches when we went walkies, what made it worse - white gloss on black dog, at least he was visible at night.... Note to self: painting over dog fur is a bad idea.... :D

  • Second coat finished on the skirtings. It is supposed to be non drip but has run a little in 2 places. Shouldn’t notice too much now the second coat is on, will check again later & smooth out any more drips.

I have decided not to rush to paint the 2 large downstairs radiators. I am so “over” decorating !! 😆 plus I checked the paint I bought to do them and it is gloss when I meant to buy satin. I phoned the range & they do not have the satin in stock. So I will take the tin back next week for a refund & wait till next time the dog goes on holiday. Will probably wait until summer as the radiators have to be off for a couple of days.

I am out friday with a friend for lunch & Saturday I am going into town with another friend. I will get new slippers as the old ones have now truly had it. The soles are hanging off & they have gloss on them 😆 We are also planning to get some lunch hopefully in the Chinese tea bar if it looks safe / social distanced.

Not sure what to do for the rest of the day. DS has come off night shift & is in bed so I need to be quiet. He will help me get the last items out of my bedroom later including the wardrobe, ready for the new bargain carpet coming tomorrow.

That reminds me, I need to go to the cash point for money to pay the fitter tomorrow. Can’t remember when I last drew out actual hard cash! 😆

  • I can see why that room caught your eye, it does look homely and inviting.

Everything happens for a reason, perhaps the radiators knew you needed a break from decorating.

Your trips sound good, can't wait to hear what a bargain your lunch is 😁

Maybe plan and look for other inspiring photos, unless you have nice weather then a stroll round the park.

  • Chinese tearoom sounds lovely, hope you manage to get there & enjoy it... not knowing what to do? Fall into the rabbit hole that is the internet, and see what other decorators have been up to....

  • New carpet is down & looking good. I have to wait for the glue to dry before hoovering. The only problem is the carpet is too thick & I cannot open or close my bedroom door 😕.

I have marked the thickness of the carpet against the door & removed the door. I just need to get someone to saw the bottom off!  Asked my next door neighbour if he could recommend someone & he suggested another neighbour. I’ve knocked the door & asked his wife. She will ask him tonight. I’ve offered to pay him & said I don’t expect him to do it for nothing so fingers crossed & hope he won’t charge much

It's not much to take a bit of the bottom off, with the rights tools it doesn't take long to do either.
I'm glad you have got it fitted and will have your door sorted out soon 🤗

  • I’m ok at chopping small things but cannot manage the precision & strength to chop off the bottom of the door with my saw. Still waiting to hear back from the neighbour. If it’s not done before the dog gets back on Sunday I will put the Dog safety gate up to stop her getting in my room for now. We don’t use it downstairs now & she sleeps with DS & his gf.

Today I will hoover the carpet & start to move stuff back in. I’m taking the radiator paint back for a refund. I’ve booked a slot for the tip for Sunday afternoon to get rid of the old carpet & the offcuts from the new carpet the fitters kindly left me 😉

Lunch is cancelled as my friend messaged last night to say she had a fall at work & has a black eye & broke her glasses. Will check back with her that she is ok & if she needs anything I will pick it up & drop it round to her at home.

  • Is there a friend's husband who may be a bit handy and could do it outside?

I hope your friend is ok and isn't too shaken up.

If the neighbours husband doesn’t get back to me by tomorrow I will start asking round.

Spoke with my friend & although she’s feeling rough she’s ok thank goodness. Told her to let me know if she needs anything.

My bedroom has been hoovered & bed is back in place. Heavier furniture will be moved once DS is back.

Paint returned for refund £14.99 & purple throw exchanged for pink throw. Changed my mind about the purple one it just looked “too purple” 😆

£10 petrol put in the car as the orange light came on & bought 4 x magnum classic Ice creams on offer £1.95& pepsi max 1.25l on offer £1. Used a receipt code & got McD Big Mac & fries £1.99.

Collected consumer Unit fuses from screwfix as I have used my spare one. Also bought new bulbs for the living room which have to be dimable. Cost £7.19 for 3 😳 but as it was the light fitting that blew the fuse in the first place I thought I’d better make sure I got the right ones!

  • Now I remember why I hate gloss! Hope the smell wears off soon. If I buy gloss ever again I will get a low odour one! Wonder if you can buy quick dry, low odour, non-drip gloss ?! Maybe it could paint itself on too 😆

    Plans for today
    1. drive into town but park on free road & walk in
    2. buy Nik wax sports direct £8.99
    3. Buy new slippers shoe zone £6.99
    4. Lunch out while in town- under £10. Will need to take £10 out of a cashpoint if we go to the tea bar as it’s cash only even in these current times. However the food is amazing & prices are cheap & you get a free cup of tea.
    5. Load car for tip run on sunday
    6. ask another neighbour to saw the bottom off my door.

Was looking at mini circular saws online last night! Not sure I would get enough use out of one to justify the £40 spend though. If I can’t get someone else to do it I may have to get one. A jigsaw would be cheaper but not convinced that is the right tool for the job.

I have my flu jab on Sunday morning 9am. Another friend is coming to the tip with me in the afternoon to help lift the old carpet into the skip & to help her out to get rid of some of her own junk as she doesn’t have a car.
