I switched to TalkTalk in the end - £27pm genuinely fixed price for 18 months to include line rental and unlimited 38mb fibre, with a further £5pm on top for anytime calls to landlines and mobiles.

Various free add-ons included, such as caller display, call divert, alarm call etc.

And a free SIM too - 500MB Data, 200 minutes, Unlimited texts

Pretty much unbeatable deal with £110 Quidco on top.

Do you know if the free SIM can be used in a MiFi for tethering data ?

Sorry - no. I doubt it, but you'd need to check with TalkTalk.

I spoke to them and I managed to get a deal.

What I did was I stated that it was cheaper for new customers than the deal they were offering me, which it was. They rambled on about how good this new hub was I said I wasn't interested in a new hub, my Hub 4 works fine. I then asked him I how I go about leaving as wasn't interested, he went away and came back with the same price I am paying now which is £32 for anytime calls and unlimited internet for 12 months rather than the 18 @ £35 he originally offered.

So I would suggest go through and make it seem like you are looking to cancel and hopefully they budge.

I think I might call back and do that to see if that gets me anywhere, as I can't remember the last time I actually used the phone. I found the lack of response when I asked about leaving very strange, but perhaps I wasn't forceful enough about it!

I don't know if you have Virgin where you are but:

Sounds much better value for your needs either paying upfront or even monthly.

Thanks for the link. I am actually considering Virgin now. I had discounted them for ages because I thought they were more expensive, but they actually do quite reasonable deals. And I'm pretty sure they're available in my street because they keep sending me junk mail!

OK, Called BT and managed to get the following deal:

    Infinity 1 unlimited (50mbps): £9
    BT sports pack: £5
    HD: £5

Above plus line rental which I normally pay in full. I was under contract until April but they made the changes effective from tomorrow - it will be a new 12 month contract (I refused 24).

So, to confirm, BT are allowing you to leave with no exit charge, no need to return any equipment and a pro-rata Line Rental Saver refund?

    Yes, I believe so.

I'm considering moving to Virgin Media. Does anyone know if I still need to give BT 30 days notice to cancel penalty free, or can I tell them to cancel with immediate effect ?

    Correct.

Obviously you need to stipulate that you are leaving because of the price increase.
