Perhaps they didn't want your cancellation request on their stats so are just passing you on to someone else.
I have just called them again, they confirmed they cannot get me any better discount but have to wait for the email or letter to leave otherwise there may be additional charges appear for leaving early. Seems daft as I already know about he increase and want to exercise my right to go. Back to waiting........and waiting...........0 -

I'm on Sky rather than BT but they had no problems confirming the same situation to me both on line and over the phone in the last couple of weeks before I received 2 successive letters from them. I did wonder if one at least was due to me contacting them.0 -
It's over on the BT forums about being able to get the Line Rental Saver back if you quit due to the price increase - clearly BT realising they don't have a leg to stand on...
"Hi Guys,"
I wanted to give you all a new update as of 10/02/2017 about ceasing line rental saver due to price changes.
If you decide to leave because of the Price Changes (letting us know within 30 days of receiving your price change notification) you will receive a refund of the remaining months of your LRS payment on your final bill. This will be done automatically in the background.
Thanks

Excellent - and very useful - post. Thanks!
Does 'DanielS, Moderator' have the authority of BT itself behind his posts? You'd assume so, but nothing's certain on forums!0 -

I think it matters not, I'm sure OFCOM would take a pretty dim view on this if it backfires.
Personally I enjoy the game, I've had some cashback, a pre paid Mastercard and an M&S voucher - wouldn't it be easier for them just to have some fair pricing in the first place? Of course not, that would be too easy!
It's the people paying top dollar that I feel sorry for - even though it takes a few minutes to realise you are being duped - much like all the hiking on the gas and electricity - it defies logic that ANYONE is STILL on a "standard" tariff that would be affected by that! Then again, that's how we now have President Trump and how I (albeit unhappily) cleaned up at the bookies - get your money on Le Pen!
That's how they make their profit no doubt!0 -

So its official. I'm quite relived... I was dreading sending all those PMs out on how get to it back.
What I also find interesting is BT are the first to publicly admit it. As an ALR refund has always been available if a provider increases prices & then offers users a cancellation option WITHOUT PENALITY.

Also been confirmed, you do not NEED to return any equipment, nor will you be charged for it, even if their email tries to fool you with the subject heading "You need to return your equipment".

In the big scheme of things I don't think them admitting they will pay back the remaining line rental saver and that people don't need to pay for or send back equipment will stop companies making mid contract price rises. I would guess that the vast majority of customers just accept the price rises and its well worth BT doing it, even if there are a few who leave the contract.0 -
Just been reading through that BT forum, good to see BT stepping up to the plate. Up to now they have been less than fair in their dealings with customers, lets hope all this info is passed through to the guys on that man the phones. They should also stop sending out emails saying people will be charged hundred because they have chosen to leave and not to accept the price rises, naughty.

For me the letter will just be a means to renogotiate next years contracts .
Contract and ALR ends July so i may just take the hit for a couple of months as i prefer contracts to remain in sync .Sorry dont want BT Sport as its all football will you do a deal on TV ??including BT Sport ?? Bluff and bluff again . Last year by quoting another ISPs prices i got BT TV + BB fibre 1 at less than the previous year for fibre 1 only .
Key is i know what i want BT Sport TV and BT are still the cheapest source .0
