Last week I received a letter from BT yo say they will be increasing my phone & broadband charges. The letter clearly states I can leave my contract early without charge so long as I give them 14 days notice if Im transferring to another provider. Having had nothing but issues with them since the start the increase was the final straw so I decided to leave. I gave them the required notice and arranged for a new provider.
How did you do that sarahg? You do know you have to ring them up for the 'no penalty cancellation' process and not do it online?0 -
It's possible to get the remaining line rental back but you need to fight. Send an official written complaint then contact CEO.0

It is indeed - but they're arguing that it's different this time because the line rental itself isn't increasing. Whether that would wash with Ofcom remains to be seen.0 -
Hi folks,
Just received the email from BT regarding price increases. It says Broadband and Calls up by £2.50 and then a couple of Phone extras I have going up. Line rental stays the same as does BT TV.
I have a TV, Phone and Broadband package with them. Is this a package I can cancel entirely or is it just the Phone and Broadband parts that are affected?
Desperate to get back with Sky.0 -

Yes, if you tell them you are leaving because of the price increase this will be fine.
There are rules in place that say BT can't prevent you from leaving penaly free (such as even though the different services are on separate contracts they are treated to be part of the same deal). It's all explained quite succinctly here:
https://www.ofcom.org.uk/__data/assets/pdf_file/0027/29682/guidance.pdf
You will (99% of the time) be required (by a new supplier) to have your phone line with the same company you have fibre with.
Also you cannot have the BTTV without BT internet so that covers that.0 -
That's my hope. I'm waiting on them coming back to me. I think this pivots on them not supplying broadband without line rental.0

I am still waiting for my official letter or email from BT and am keen to arrange the move away. Am I in a minority or are others still waiting? Thanks.0

I've had nothing yet either, I've only been back with them since October 2016.
The link earlier does indeed tell me my price is going up by £2.50 - so from £10.99 to £13.49 - I make that a whopping 22.75% increase!
After all the help I got from a mod on the BT forums, helped sort me out the deal I tried to get originally (they seriously underestimated my line speed at first so couldn't get the max entertainment package) - all to no avail now. The TV package is rubbish anyway - I'd rather give Virgin a little bit extra and get 4 times the broadband speed!
Which is what I will be doing when I eventually recieve the written confirmation that they seek to rip me off 3 months in.0 -
A very competent sounding manager from BT called me, apologised for me being given the incorrect information and agreed that the line rental and broadband are linked and that I will be refunded if I leave.0

I contacted BT today having received email notification of the price increase (£2.50/month).
My bill is currently £40.64 for Infinity 2 unlimited fibre broadband, line rental and unlimited weekend calls. This apparently includes a special discount rate on the broadband.
They first offered a deal which was more expensive than my current one, and then said there was no way to reduce the price. When I suggested I might move to another provider, the person just talked about how they use traffic shaping and BT doesn't.
I'm not sure what to do now. There's only me using the Internet (although I do a fair amount of streaming, playing games etc.), and I don't use the landline at all. Is it worth phoning back? I asked if I needed to let them know if I was cancelling and they said I didn't, and the person was fairly uninterested in persuading me to stay, so I don't know if there's any point. I'm not good at haggling either.
I've been with BT for 5 years, but I don't think I can justify paying almost £45 a month for what I use.0
