MSE News: BT to hike broadband and call prices and charge TV customers for BT Sport

BT have told me that even though they are putting up the cost of our broadband we are unable to cancel as we took out our agreement online, does anybody know if that's correct?
Surely it's not right to have different consumer rights online to over the phone?!
Thanks!
Did you take out phone and broadband with BT at the same time?0 -

Are others still waiting for BT to communicate the price rise? When must BT contact me for the rise to within Ofcom allowances?
Finally, when BT do make contact how do I serve notice so that I dont cancel my phone/broadband and arrange for an alternate provider to transfer my service to ensure as near as possible smooth transfer and service maintenance?
Thanks in anticipation.MN
You don't have to wait for a letter or email, just call them and tell them you've heard of the upcoming price rises and wish your account to be updated to show that you're exercising your right to leave the contract without penalty. Make sure that you mention that you're NOT cancelling immediately but will arrange a change over with another supplier. Also ask for the window for the transfer.0 -
I don't suppose you can leave your mobile contract early because of the price increase I know i can leave tv home phone and internet. But if i leave my bt mobile bill will go up because they apply £5 discount..
So i have to agree to the price increase too keep my discount..
sounds crazy lol0 -

Welcome to the forums  .
I'm in the same boat, and have two mobile contracts. I suppose we have to console ourselves that the increase is a lot less than paying full whack for the mobile/s would be.
Haven't heard anything back following the complaint that I was told had been logged though. Why am I not surprised?I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

The beauty of quad play, good for the companies but not always good for us.0 -
I was on the phone with them today and it was the same case with me. I can cancel everything but not the mobile, as i had it for less than a month.
For this mobile contract i am waiting for cashback (£50) and the amazon card (80£) and that should offset the new higher cost. Hopefully, they will pay without a fight.
Previous cashback and mastercard for the phone line and broadband were paid with no issues. Fingers crossed.0 -
Hi, Thank you! Yes I took out both at the same time0

I have just [STRIKE]spent[/STRIKE] wasted nearly an hour, first on online chat and then on the phone to them. Sorry but they really don't seem to understand what they are doing.
I looked on my account and saw that instead of the £9.50 I was quoted (and still have the order confirmation email to prove), I am being charged £15 "less 46p discount" for my first bill.
Eventually the third call transfer just wasn't being answered, so I have been told to call back tomorrow.
One nugget that I will be using - the person I spoke with told me that any agreements made after 20th January are inclusive of the April increase. I asked why I had been emailed about it, and was told it was to make sure no-one could say they didn't know about it.
Feeling totally drained now, and still none the wiser. It seems to be the same every year on renewal, there is always some error that I have to sort out. Why don't I leave? Well currently it's because of the two mobile contracts, but I am seriously thinking of quitting anyway, except I have paid the line rental for the year. What a way to run a major national company.

Is your first bill for one month only, or for a part month plus a full month?0

Goodness knows. My old contract was up on 6th Feb, but the guy I dealt with said he would have to start the new one from 3rd as they can't use weekend dates.
Here's (part of) the text from the bill:
Credit Special offer discount -£0.46
2 Feb - 4 Feb 17
You get your Package at a special rate. We show this on your bill by giving you a refund of £4.25 a month
Your special offer discount lasts for 12 months
I must be honest, I only just noticed the bit about a £4.25 refund a month, but if this is the case why hasn't it been deducted from the first bill?
I was expecting a total of £27.50, being the £9.50 BB charge, plus two phone contracts @ £8 and £10. Instead the total bill is £32.54. Makes no sense. Unless the 46p discount for 2/2-4/2 is pro rata of the agreed monthly discount, and I am going to get a full refund on the next bill.
The trouble is, BT makes their bills so hard to understand, that it's no wonder people don't know whether they are correct or not.I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe
